Missing the most important question subby. What will happen to nude sunbathing Eric now that the protection from the sun is gone and he is on the glacier and in flames.

Did someone force you to watch at gunpoint?

I think the show was really good at the beginning. The first two seasons were amazing. I think the two dumbest plots were:

1. Sam's family

2. werepanthers

In any case, for me at least the show is about the characters more than the plot.

And Sookie is such a f*cking idiot, but she's meant to be, and the actress pulls it off gloriously. The secret to really enjoying the show is to imagine that she's a gerbil, and then suddenly it all makes sense.

The last season was abysmal.  They've deviated so far from the spirit of the books that I won't be watching.  They did everything to try and make Bill into a nice guy again in the series when he's a douchebag in the books (and Eric is the more decent guy).

Great premise...totally ruined.

What truly sucks is that the last two books have been total dreck and garbage.  I mean seriously.  THAT is how you finish such a long running series?

They all kind of were... Charlane Harris is not a phenomenal writer by any means. She had a great concept but has a grasp of things like sex as much as I did when I was a thirteen-year-old virgin starting to wonder what sex was like.

I've been on a major insomnia kick and HBO 2 has shown the whole series night by night working up to tonight.  Last season probably should have been the end (If I'd written it, I'd have had all the vampires die, have Eric kill Warlo, and last scene is Sookie popping fangs - the only vampire left on earth.)  Sure, it's open-ended and it's strange, but it would have worked.

Though I will say this, as much as I did not LOVE last season, it's clear re-watching it all that the writers of the show were planting seeds all along and it actually does all make sense watching it in retrospect.

And if Eric comes back ala Godric in visions to Pam and/or Tara, I may stab my television. He MUST be alive and part of the show. He's the freaking Tyrion of "True Blood."  He can't die.

Note: the book where Eric loses his memory and the first time Sookie and him have sex. He apparently has a six-FOOT long penis, the way it's described, and just very, very awkward for a character as suave as Eric.

In fairness, I started reading the books post season 3, and already had a fondness for Eric, who is better portrayed by Alexander Skarsgaard than the author of the books. But then again, everyone is.

Also, why did Lafayette evolve from an eccentric gay guy to a borderline drag queen over the six seasons so far?

Charlene Harris created some interested characters...but I couldn't get through the books beyond the 2nd because they appear to have been written by a 12 year-old girl.  I know it's from Sookie's perspective but it's ridiculously immature IMHO.

Exactly...  Sookie is an adult, why does it read like a curious teenager?  I stopped reading at spoliers (that weren't 100% accurate) during the Marnie season -- which was way better than I remembered, aside from Eric being adorable.  I can be a real girlie girl about him.

I would kill and pay a Koch's ransom for a TV show with a Dinklage/Skaargaard pairing.

The ending was alright. Nothing was as bad as the 3rd book. It was a damn romance novel about a chubby girl learning that she can be pretty too.

Living Dead in Dallas was the best book.

And the TV show is better

Heh. This could possibly be the worst show ever. If they really just killed off a long time character in that fashion...I don't even.

The books are just as bad after #5 or so.

I'm re- watching season 4 right now, in my binge watch, and I'm at the point where Eric's memory has disappeared and he's an adorable playful boy.  It's awesome to watch.

It's also amusing to see the amount of chest hair on the male characters change over the seasons.  Alcede especially.  He's yummy

He was always a borderline drag queen, much more so than an eccentric gay guy.  As someone from Louisiana he is one of the "realest" characters on the show.

I'm going into this season like I do Lions football. No expectations. I was surprised on this one, I thought it was pretty decent. Not surprised they killed off Tara (again). Really. Her shtick was boring in the first season; supremely one note character. Deborah Ann Woll and Chris Bauer killed it this ep though, they were fantastic. I'll throw Kristen Bauer von Straten in that list too.

Questions though:
1: wtf was it that scared the h-vamps away?
2: Violet was just oddly annoying... why? The female power thing was there, but it was like Jason was her biatch and that was it. Which is damn funny. Not really seeing her point. Aside from the magnificent nipples that could poke your eyes out. They're like Mountain thumbs. Quite wonderful.

The good: as mentioned; the above actors really kicked ass. The makeup for the vamps is really good. New James and Lafayette were good too.

The bad: Alcide... oh Alcide. Capt Cardboard to the rescue. Poor Arlene, that chick just can't catch a break.

The ugly: who else thinks that Sams new chicky is either going to lose the baby in the dungeon and or be killed before the 5th episode? Noooooo not Kevin!

2014-06-22 10:25:33 PM
Hated to see Kevin go. Seemed weird to give Tara an offscreen death. I also didn't get what scared the H-vamps away.

If I had Alcide naked in my bed, I'd have no time for sulking in the kitchen, going to church, or giving a shiat about the town falling apart around me.

A. Lafayette is one of the best characters in anything, ever. Spike from Buffy is, however, better.

B. As a straight guy, I wish I was gay so I could sleep with him.

The only way to watch it is to DVR,and skip anything with sookie and tara in it. Except for boobies, because w, well, boobies.

A. Yes on Lafayette being one of the great characters out there. But I never enjoyed BVS so I'll disagree about that part.

B. Don't see how being straight stops you from sleeping with him. Well anymore than the fact it's a fictional character, that is.

I marathoned the show for the last two weeks in anticipation of tonight. I have loved every bit of it (except for the werewolves and werepanthers -- holy god!) from Sookie the Danger Whore to Tara the One-Note. I love Sookie and Bill and Jessica, ADORE Eric (especially Amnesia!Eric of course), LOVE LOVE LOVE LaFayette, and at least like everyone else, like Pam and even screamy Ginger. The whole last two weeks of getting to know and love this show has been like a rollercoaster -- a wild thrill ride with sex and butts and even a penis! (before it caught fire).

So, I am going to have to experience the anticipation of waiting a week between episodes, and I wonder if that will change my view of the show? If I might not like the season because I have more time invested? I'm interested in finding out.

I'm so happy that I decided to watch this show -- it has rewarded me IMMENSELY and I make no apologies for that.

I will confess that there is one way the show bitterly disappointed me (crushing disappointment): So little Godric and Eric/Godric.

They should have had Godric instead of Nora, because I can guaran-damn-tee you that if Godric had died of Hep-V in Eric's arms it would have gotten a screaming/crying/sobbing fit out of me instead of a "Halleluja"!

Godric/Eric -- criminally missed opportunity for so many reasons.
