Will they send him back to AAA now?

AverageAmericanGuy: Will they send him back to AAA now?

Why would they send JJ Hardy to AAA?  He's their starting shortstop and getting paid over $7mil a year

That was pretty cool.  He took it in stride, and they didn't leave him hanging too long.  I closed the link, but it looks like the first dude in the dugout started to give him 5 but remembered or was reminded not to.

I've always liked him, and he's still putting up decent enough numbers for a shortstop and also won the last two AL gold gloves, so it's not like he's a liability defensively when he's slumping . . .

Sending players back to AAA who are trending in the right direction of production seems their MO lately.

See: Gausman, Kevin

Meanwhile they're paying 8 figure salaries to pitchers who walk about a batter an inning.

If you actually followed the O's, you'd know why Gausman was sent down, and its just procedural.

There were a surprising number of orange jerseys there. That's probably just a function of orange standing out vs. the white (or navy blue). I just didn't think too many fans would travel 200 miles, or that there would be many local O fans.

/and empty seats, but I don't know what the game time was or or what the forecast was, so I won't read too much into that.

A: I didn't see that much orange, except for on the players.

B: It was a Saturday game. 200 Miles is 3 hours or do. Drive up Friday night, back Sunday day, and make a weekend out of it.

C: That had a surprisingly low number of empty seats... I don't know why they still waste the money building stadiums that handle 75,000+ people.

Because the fair-weather Yankee fans couldn't be bothered to come to the game.

Those O's fans probably got good deals on StubHub or something.

Saw game on TV, self sunflower-seed shower was funny.

a) I'm mean, I'm not trying to make a federal case out of it or anything, but I see a lot of orange in the section above the Canon sign and in the upper deck sections above that. There are a few spots here where there's more orange than white. It made an impression on me. Maybe the white jerseys have fled since they're down by four in the top of the eighth*. :)

I wonder if the stadium piles away fans into these sections on purpose based on credit card location. When I go to White Sox games, it seems like that section (third-base line, near left field) has a lot of MIN or DET fans.

b) That might happen some, I guess.

c) Are you talking about football stadiums now? Yankee Stadium doesn't hold close to 75,000.

*kidding, kidding!

Dammit. That should say "I mean". Really, I'm not mean!

Shiat, it's 45,000-63,000, my bad. Still usually about 40% more than the teams ever need...

And yeah, when teams are losing, often their "loyal" fans flee like rats deserting a sinking ship. It's really bad in Phx. I've seen half of the crowd bail with time on the clock whether they're winning, losing, tied, or it's a close game.

1) He's an above-average defender at a crucial position.  You put up with a lot of poor hitting for that.

2) His bat isn't bad for a shortstop this year, or for his career.

Triple post, woooo!

I had an image here. Fark can't thumbnail it off my server, and it won't let me upload it. Maybe a mod can tell me why?

Probably this. Orange really pops. At the Super Bowl I thought the crowd was predominantly Broncos fans... then the game started and the noise level said otherwise.

Its a new tradition with the Orioles. Do something cool, head back to the benches and the rest of the team acts like nothing happened for the first few moments before showering the player with high fives, sunflower seeds and butt slaps.

This is one reason why baseball is so cool. It's full of silly rituals, superstitions & unspoken rules. Here's a bunch of adults getting paid vast sums of cash to play a kids game. Good for them.

/Bad for me - a can of beer at OPACY is ten bucks. 8 for a Natty Boh!
