That was essentially my last performance review.

Happy people are less detail oriented. Nothing new.

The angry ones are angry because they're the only ones being efficient at their jobs.

If I have one outstanding characteristic, it's probably that. I've tried to explain a million times that negative people, and people who are slightly depressed, are the people who see the world as it really is. We're not deluded or sour--that's how it really is! I'm supposed to stop seeing things as they are, and adopt some sappy view of the world that I know isn't true, just so the rest of you can be happy in your ignorance? I don't think so.

You think I ENJOY this? But it's not like you can unsee it.

Nothing better than a smart lazy person.  If you have a hard job they'll figure out an easier way to do it.  Stolen from various people, but it's true, I'm that guy on my team, which I don't mind.  I get to tell people why their product/process sucks and how to make it better.

Grumpy, angry, negative people are the only people who really know what's happening.

As one of the malcontents, I had the privilege of staying at my desk and doing the work while the social butterflies did the parties. With the bosses out of the area, it was easier to get things done. Lack of rank has its privileges, too.

I'd say that is true in 90% of the cases. I know when things aren't going well in my personal life, I buckle down at work even more, because I can control that. But I have an assistant who is SO angry about things in his personal life that he's letting it affect his job performance to the point I'm about to let him go. Not only do the most mundane tasks take him forever to accomplish now, his attitude sucks and he's constantly attacking others around him, including me.

As long as we can distinguish between high strung/efficient and abusive/office poison.

Because one of the primary tactics of office poison is to confuse the two.

I don't give a fark about the birthday party in the conference room.

Meh, I don't fully agree. I am a grumpy, often-negative person and, while I am capable of some of the best work in my office, I choose to slack off. Why? Because the work I do simply doesn't matter. I know it's time to get a new job, but this pays pretty well and their are bills to pay.

Agreed.

I know what I'm doing, have twice the experience of anyone I work with, and I just no longer care. So, I collect a paycheck and do just enough to keep the head idiots happy.

I'd find a new job, but I'm doing pretty well collecting a paycheck for giving maybe 25% the effort I'm capable of. And it seems like every day, new rules come down tying my hands from doing things correctly.

So fark it.

I'm female, so you're supposed to say, "Sounds like you need to get laid." Now I'm not saying that's not so, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't cure it either.

You know what's worse? There are some studies showing that those vapid, endlessly-positive people do much better in life overall, because they're more pleasant to be around and they make a lot more connections. Also since they spend a lot of time cheering everyone else on, they get advanced far beyond their actual abilities, just for their peppy personalities.

This. I've sat and watched while my entire department fired reply-all emails back and forth for two hours planning a potluck.

In the mean time, I got a half day's work done. In my performance reviews, it often comes up that the team sees me as "disengaged".

It helps if you ask yourself what made them grumpy, angry, and negative in the first place.

Being nice is no excuse for being stupid.

As usual, people confound and confuse cause and effect.

Are they grumpy because they are working hard or are they working hard because they are grumpy?

I would say a little of both. A lot of both. The stupidity, laziness, time-wasting and incompetence of cheerful people is excruciating torture. The Morons march on.

Before I left my last job, I seriously considered making up a fake relationship and having a kid.  My boss would give raises to people who got married and had kids.  The rest of us did not.  My plan was I would first "get married", then have a kid and start bring in pictures I found online.

Volunteer to bring plates, since you "can't cook". You may cook very well, but plates (or utensils or napkins) are the easiest thing to bring and now you appear to be participating with very little effort.

Remembering my roots as the lazy perfectionist and going from the office ass to YOU DO NOT FARK WITH MY NIGHTS OR WEEKENDS WITH YOUR RUBE GOLDBERG SHIAT is actually what got me promoted and made life a lot easier.  People come to me now asking for the right way to do things before they start, and I have people above me and below me showing up and asking to go to lunch to pick my brain.  And the more they hear, the more they want to mimic, and I don't mind teaching since I find the subject matter interesting.  I still work my nights/weekends but do so at my own pace now and only on the things I want to do.
