Really? You guys don't have an old TV/antennae that can get ABC in the office? How could you ever hope to attract Indycar to the track without it? (Since that seems to be how race control makes judgment calls.)

Hello all! Balancing my race watching with taking care of the kid today.

Coming this weekend (probably gonna record it tonight or tomorrow, might be Monday before it gets posted) is the NASFARK podcast!

I'm working on a soundboard and stuff and I'll bring people on if I can. Not sure on length yet. 30-60 minutes in that range.

Possibly the best K&N Pro series race I've ever seen was at Virginia International Raceway.

The more road courses the better is all I'm sayin'.

The truck race in Canada last year was great. I think they would be amazing at Lime Rock.

Only up until the point they don't start significantly modifying the rules to make the cars "better" on road courses.

The problem is there's already a road race up that way, so they likely wouldn't put one up there.

Who the hell am I kidding, NASCAR's not making any *serious* changes to any kind of schedule anytime soon.  Next year will be a pretty drastic change in how the races are arranged (Daytona 400 possibly at the end of the year for a season because of renovations taking over the summer, for one), but until Dover drops a race and some other stuff happens we're kinda stuck with what we've got.

The best road course racing anywhere is the Aussie V8 series.  I'd watch the shiat out of that if we had it here every week.

Also, the track I announce at is rained out, so I'm kind of glad this is on today.

As a Nascar Noob who mainly watches Indy and United Sportscar why are they in the pits for a little drizzle? They keep talking about the rain tires they have.

Why don't they let them run or would the carnage be epic?

too much rain for the slicks to be effective, not enough rain for the rain tires to be effective. Right now, running at speed with either set would be clownshoes.

I think they just don't want them starting under wet conditions. If the race were already a few laps in the books, I'd like to believe they'd let them go. But yes, it turns into a bunch of 3500 pound monkeys farking large footballs when there is water on the track.

Its too dry for rain tires and too wet for dry tires. Add to it the teams got two sets of rain tires each. Its like Bud Selig took over for this race.

Nope, moved from there a couple years ago.  Less asthmas, warm beaches, cheaper food, less traffic. Miss the Armstrong Redwoods, Humbolts but not much else.

Going to go put my toes in the sand and pop a cold one.

Thanks everyone.

So it is the goldilocks of rain. Not enough for the rains and to much for the slicks and clownshoes would result.

I went to my first race at Road America last year and it was raining at a pretty good clip during the Porsche GT3 cup race and they were locking them up halfway down the hill into turn 5 and results were spectacular.

I assume those type of tires are for when we have conditions in between wet and dry.

Yup. Every series that races in the rain has a middle tire between slicks and full treaded rain tires. Intermediate tires have less (or no) tread and are a super soft compound. They're designed exactly for conditions like this, or for when a track is drying after a full on storm. It's common sense. Only NASCAR would bring rain tires without it occurring to them to have Inters,  even though they own a sportscar series.

I'm thinking most of the fellas out there would prefer to avoid that sort of spectacularity today.
But I wouldn't. :D
