Yeah. I very disappointed in the Governor now. I much prefer wacky Perry.

Rick Perry gets in trouble for saying what he honestly believes.

Really, I didn't think his comments demanded apology. I'm sure he honestly believes that, like alcoholism, homosexuality is innate, and, like alcoholism, you should not act on your homosexual impulses.

The problem isn't that what he said was wrong, the problem is that people believe that. He shouldn't apologize for what he said, he should just be scorned for what he believes. The problem is, a lot of people believe the same thing.

In the same way that I like my racists unapologetic, because it makes them easier to quarantine, we shouldn't make people apologize for homophobic rhetoric, we should make them feel ashamed for believing it in the first place.

And that by saying it, he becomes a mouthpiece for that view, bolstering the belief.  There are plenty that know he is wrong, but there are plenty that feel their belief was given support.

I honestly don't know who is wackier on the issue of same sex marriage - santorum yesterday said marriage is an economic enterprise centered around producing children and that's why gay marriage had to be outlawed. Not because of the whole 'love' thing but because same sex marriage was a bad business model.

Weaver95: Not because of the whole 'love' thing but because same sex marriage was a bad business model.

Everything I've read from Rick Santorum makes me think that his is a completely loveless marriage, done for the express purpose of begetting children.

That wasn't even a "Sorry if you're offended but I'm not sorry I said it" apology. It was just a "Oops, you mad bro? Did I say something wrong? Well ummmm states rights!"

"I think the social issues should be decided state-by-state rather than being something in Washington, D.C. to try to make one-size-fits-all."

Yeah like if gays should have the rights of everyone else, or if white people should be able to own black people.

Idiot.

The only reason our economy is booming is because we intentionally poach jobs from other states with the crookedest cronyist capitalism this side of the the Mississip' and we've got ass-tons of oil and gas. Don't put another Texan governor in the White House, America. You'll live to regret it.

Q: The Texas GOP adopted as a plank in it's platform that 'pray the gay away' is how to deal with gays, as Governor, you are the leader of the Texas GOP, do you agree with that?

A: States rights! We've got to get people working! Look over there!

Now that the first question has been addressed, can you tell me why there are so many conservative politicians going out of their way to have their photo taken shoving a phallic food down their throat.

In order to maintain the illusion that a candidate is the common clay of the new west before the Iowa caucus, they spend a few days eating deep fried heart disease and imbibing liquid diabetes. Much like if you went to a South American tribe and they handed you some fried bat, you would eat it to not dishonor the backwards traditions of the people you hope to ingratiate yourself with.

More than half like to drink a beer. His future election opponent will tell the adult beverage drinkers that Perry called them a bunch of homos. Is Perry gonna run ads explaining some nuance about what he meant?

He can't apologize to both groups. That would be the worst possible action.

If he apologizes to the homos, then not only is he insulting alcohol drinkers with the comparison, now he's saying they are worse than the homos. If he apologizes only to the alcohol drinkers, then he might be okay. A lot of Republicans get elected without homosexual votes.

Exactly. Because a state should have the right to criminalize and make arrests for interracial marriage and sodomy. Because FREEDOM for a state to take away your freedoms.

No, probably just ads that point out that he didn't say 'beer drinkers' or 'adult beverage drinkers' and specifically said 'alcoholic' and how his future election opponent (as well as you, apparently) think that "alcoholic"="beer drinker"/"adult beverage drinker".

Kind of hard to find considering corndogs basically are fried dicks.

I think history and judicial precedent say pretty unambiguously that, while some issues should be left state to state, civil rights (especially those related to enfranchisement, but reasonable equity of access to services is in there) shouldn't be among those issues.

Whenever I see Rick Perry wearing his smartifying glasses, I'm reminded of this:

2014-06-20 08:39:50 PM
"I think the social issues should be decided state-by-state rather than being something in Washington, D.C. to try to make one-size-fits-all."

Does that apply to civil rights laws too, Ricky?

2014-06-20 08:48:02 PM
The focus should be on American jobs, Perry said, "and that is not on these social issues."

Ah, yes.  Republicans, the party that focuses on jobs and doesn't care at all about social issues like gay marriage or women's rights or immigrants or minimum wage being a living wage or workplace gender salary disparity.  They don't focus on those.

No, their focus is clearly on American jobs, as evidenced by their 50 House votes to repeal or defund the Affordable Care Act.  Because if fewer people have health insurance, there will be more jobs when those people die.

I'm not sure how I could ever vote Republican again.  Oh yeah, anti-gun Democrats like Feinstein and HillaryIsNot45.
