man i wish there was a thread about this

I don't think we've discussed this enough as it is truly the only interesting story of this world cup

This is completely different! Other threads have captured the news or the disappointment of the fans. This has to do with record TV ratings.

Lots of people tuned in for Diana's funeral, as well.  Patriotic tragedy plays very well on British airwaves.

They Roonied up this world cup so badly they will have to rebuild the whole damned concept of team England top to bottom and end to end due to pressure from every damned fan they have. If their plane crashes on the way home it would actually save them some time and paperwork rebuilding.

They managed, in only two matches, to exceed the fondest dreams of the most rabid ABE endorser.

That kind of under performance is usually not possible without bribing players, but England managed it using only hubris and shiatty play.

Well done England , well done.

You know what this thread needs? A comparison in TV numbers between a global sporting event in which the country is participating, to a local league sporting championship in which only two cities are participating, as proof that soccer is more popular than the other sport.

THIS.

Also, I wish there was someone complaining about how many times a subject was greened.  Just like I wish there was someone complaining that the link was Deadline Hollywood.  That would make this the best thread ever.

/I didn't ask for a "This" guy, 'cuz I fulfilled that requirement.

Some asshole American to point out that for two cups running, the US has outlasted England.

So there we have it.

Correction: The only other way that England exceeds ABE supporters' fondest dreams is if England and Argentina are in the same group; they face off in a crucial third match for each team; they play to a draw; and they BOTH end up getting eliminated.

/Bonus: One of the two countries that ends up advancing from that group is the U.S.

That seems like it's really just a dick move. It's like the "anybody but the Dallas Cowboys" attitude but somehow comes off as being more passive aggressive.

But the Dallas Cowboys never invaded your homeland, stole your most precious artifact and then crowns their monarch on top of it like a bunch of arrogant twats.

Except that most ABEs are also ABUSes, too.  They just happen to get their ABUS wish every WC.

I'm not against the USA and I've never known any other Scotland supporters who are. I like the US. I genuinely want to see them do well and respect them for the effort that they have put in to build their team and to improving the quality and the stature of the MLS.

Now, I am ABE but there's no malice there towards England or for English people in general. It's banter, not bigotry. Part of it is being on the other side of the world's oldest international football rivalry and quite a lot of it is in response to years of arrogance from English fans and their media, particularly the scorn and abuse from them towards Scottish football.

Assuming you're referring to the Superb Owl, isn't the fact that there is no world championship of American football proof enough?

Basically, England is the University of Tennessee of (world) football.
