If they're so against gay sex, why did they invite a speaker whose name is the same as that "santorum" stuff gays make?

An explicit threat of violence from an individual belonging to a larger group that's committed violent acts before?

Sounds like a perfect scenario for a completely legal pre-emptive strike, to me.

So you're saying that Rich Santorum is the head of a terrorist organization?

By "larger group", you mean the homo sapiens sapiens species?

/It is technically correct.

I can only allow myself to be guided by precedent here. That precedent appears to warrant some shock and awe.

Some fairness in consideration is warranted here. The statement of a lone extremist with no leadership role in an organization that allows anyone to openly proclaim themselves an adherent is not itself reason to malign the entire organization.

That the organization irrationally advocates in support of legal discrimination and imposition of religious morality into secular law is itself sufficient reason to malign the entire organization.

Additionally, consider the context of the statement: the supporter did not explicitly threaten to commit acts of violence; rather, the supporter merely predicted "violence" as being a consequence of legal recognition of same-sex marriage. This may simply be demonstrative of a belief that legal recognition of same-sex marriage will cause a subsequent increase in rates of violent crime. Given that outspoken same-sex marriage opponents are generally incapable of rational thought, that one would derive such an entirely illogical conclusion despite a lack of any historical basis is understandable.

The same tactics and intolerance they are showing is surprisingly similar to tactics used in the 60s and 70s to stop other people from having their rights given to them.

The parallels are truly striking. What's more, Santorum wanted and wants to be president, yet here he is. Him being an actual contender in the GOP primary election for president is reason enough to not vote GOP for a long, long time.

Once again, it's all about them.  Somehow, what other consenting adults do has a direct and absolute effect on this guy's marriage because reasons.  Is his marriage and his self-perception really that fragile that it can be crushed that easily?

Think you need to rethink your opinion there, George Wallace.

Maybe the government needs to dissolve all marriages. Churchs and others could continue with the same ceremonies. And people could still remember and forget their anniversaries.

Legal partner rights could be signed using a simple document provided by IRS. It would include partner name, prior legal condition, agreement for hospital, funeral, rights of inheritance, and other probate and family matters. I would be shared with all government agencies like the VA, Social Security, Health . . .etc. with provision for whatever courthouse originally recorded the "license."

Family lawyers would go nuts trying to figure out which to buy first: the yacht or the dream house. Unless, tax lawyers got the gig in the new system.

This kind of shiat shows that someone hasn't been paying attention. Have you not noticed that anti-same-sex marriage people are also fighting tooth and nail against same-sex civil unions? Have you also not noticed that in western nations that "marriage" is not the domain of religion and hasn't been for hundreds of years?

But, hey, go ahead and appease these hate-filled turdsacks. Show them we're unwilliing to do the Right Thing because it's hard and might hurt their hateful little feels.

Keep in mind that he didn't actually threaten violence, he simply indicated that violence will occur as a "consequence of nationwide marriage equality."

In other words, he's attempting to use the fear of violence, not violence itself, as a threat. He's not personally committing himself to violent acts - just that violence will occur. He's attempting to incite violence from those who would somehow consider their acts to be a necessary martyrdom.

And I'm OK with that. The consequences of violence are easily addressed within our society's legal system. Yes, there will be religious fundamentalist asshats who will commit violence, but as we've already expressed, as a society, our willingness to raze to the ground religious fundamentalist asshats who commit violence, my only concern would be logistics and mitigation.

We, as a society, need to remind religious extremists, no matter their religion, that such extremism is not tolerated.

Never mind that it's just a dumb argument... Marriage is a contract. The government will always be involved in contract law.

That the whole system should be changed to accommodate some bigots, who don't even know what century they live in is asinine.
