Nevertheless Dorit, it is my child, and through extensive research, I choose to not vaccinate my children! No court ruling or intimidation would ever force me to change my position. You are a policy maker and a faithful servant to the pharmaceutical industry. Your policy making and one sided agenda does not serve disease free life. There is to much wrong with the vaccine industry to ever take your words with anything other than a grain of salt. Health freedom and Constitutional protections afforded the parents will not be usurped or coerced into doing something unconscionable such as injecting any living thing with foreign DNA , human diploid derived from aborted baby's, heavy metals, poly sorbate, mouse brain DNA, formaldehyde, ALUMINIUM, thimerasol and bovine cocktails along with antifreeze. To the informed person who can think and reason, your claims are not credible although you come out speaking with a false sense of authority.

And her replies... the derp flows in this one.

She misspelled infromed.

You know how Seinfeld made yada, yada famous. Maybe we could do this with derpa, derpa.

I just learned to speed read, so I'll give you brief recap:

1. There's a lot of pertussis in Berkeley, so you should be fine as long as you don't smell like patchouli and wear Birkenstocks.
2. Whoopies are a common symptptom of adults.
3. Cocoon with the herd.
4. California has a lot of colors with no useful explaation as to what they mean.

You are welcome.

Jiro Dreams Of McRibs: So the Supreme Court basically ruled 100 years ago that you must allow people exemptions on religious, personal-belief kinds of grounds. So that's sort of been basically adjudicated a long time ago, is my understanding. There are also rare instances where you shouldn't vaccinate. For example, [if] you've had a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine, you shouldn't get more doses of that vaccine.

Sometimes it just amazes me. There are millions of people living illegally in California. I'm pretty sure before they crossed the border they made sure their families' vaccination schedules were up-to-date.

Doctor, millions of people come to this country from places that have little or no health care. They come here sick, they live in the fringes of society and don't get the health care they need here. Couple that with poverty and lack of care among the lower classes of citizens in this country and you have the perfect incubator for anything from pertussis to polio.

Most people don't advertise it like they do online. And many people in real life are not zealots, they are just scared because they have heard things that anti-vaxxers have put out thanks to "Tell both sides of the story" media outlets and google-bombing by anti-vax groups.

My ex's brother was SEVERELY autistic and at the level of a 5 year old, and his parents were in an autism support group for the area we lived in at the time. Most of them blamed vaccines for their children being "different", and genuinely seemed to feel like they were victims of big pharma.

Something to understand about local anti-vax groups is that they frequently troll news stories about vaccination. I actually had the leader of "Thinking Mom's Revolution" Memphis chapter try to get me in trouble with my workplace because I throughly cockblocked her attempt to play propaganda on the local news site, and even outed her as a shill for the group

That article only mentions Mexicans.  Quite a few of the illegal immigrants are from further down. I'm not saying they're the cause, the article is kinda narrow in that regard. I'm also curious if the 9 who died in LA county lived in poor Hispanic neighborhoods.

I'm not an anti-vaxer and, hell, I even get the flu shot every year because I'm aware that vaccines have eradicated or nearly eradicated diseases, but I periodically wonder if I'm putting just a little bit to much faith in the pharmaceutical industry. Maybe it's good that we have dipshiats like Jenny McCarthy in the world to help keep them honest.

I remember back in the day, if a kid in our neighborhood got chicken pox all the kids who hadn't gotten it yet would be playing with them. Their parents would make sure of it.

lohphat: Christian Nation my ass.

This is where the Christians need to step up and open facilities for the mentally disabled. That's how they can back up their claim. Not by making other people help. You get no moral credit for forcing other people to do good.

SewerSquirrels: but I periodically wonder if I'm putting just a little bit to much faith in the pharmaceutical industry

Vaccines are actually one of the few areas where there is intense oversight in the pharmaceutical industry from NGOs and Governments, because they are considered matters essential to public health and national security. And their money actually depends on it. Vaccines are heavily subsidized by the US Government and most western governments in general, because there is NO money in it when compared with things like BP meds and Statins.

Destructor: brap: I just got my Tdap booster.

I literally could not believe there was an outbreak of this in Illinois. I thought my Doc was kidding. So, I joked back, "Nah, lets skip it... I'm afraid of getting 'the Autism'..."

He looked at me skeptically.

"Yes, that's right. An adult is afraid of getting a neural developmental disorder..." He laughed... And then I realized what kind of people he's been dealing with around here.  (Of course I got the damned shot.)

As a race, we're pretty much doomed. Enjoy the slide into oblivion while you still can!

Easy solution to the anti-vaccers: add a surcharge to their health insurance.  A *massive* one.  Also, deny access to the following public services: education, transit, and medical.  The public policy should be that people who risk the public health are denied access to public services.

The problem is that anti vaccine nuts don't "keep anyone honest", because honesty doesn't work on them.  Like religious fanatics or conspiracy theorists, they've already made up their minds about what they believe the truth to be, and any data to the contrary is dismissed as lies, no matter how well supported it is.

As for chicken pox parties, that's fine for a generally non-fatal disease with no permanent disabling effects, but you can't have farking polio parties.

As a former poor person, who lived among dangerous poor people, I hope you know that poor people are in fact disproportionately dangerous for their population numbers. The only people more dangerous than poor people are oligarchs who buy their way out of the Rule of Law. People who aren't as dangerous include the upper lower class, nearly the entire middle class, and the lower and middle upper class. I hope these facts don't cause you to fear poor people because in nearly every case being poor is not deliberate and they deserve the benefit of the doubt. But I hope you do fear and work against oligarchs who buy their way out of the rule of law. They need to be in prison, every last one.

Except that's not true.

http://www.fda.gov/BiologicsBloodVaccines/vaccines/questionsaboutvac ci nes/ucm070430

The limit for water is 2ppb or .002 mg (.000002 grams)

The limit for older vaccines with Themerisol (49.6% mercury) is .01% or 50 mcg (.00005 grams) in a .5ml dose - or about .000025 since only half is mercury.

So you're not getting 20,000 times more.  You're getting about 2.5 times more of an incredibly tiny dose.

And that's before you take into account you drink 6,000 times more water each day than you'd get in a vaccine.

Lexx: Also, deny access to the following public services: education, transit, and medical.

It'll be great! We'll have special police positioned at every bus stop. We'll all be so much safer!

uber humper: Stile4aly: Jiro Dreams Of McRibs: So the Supreme Court basically ruled 100 years ago that you must allow people exemptions on religious, personal-belief kinds of grounds.

Immigrants aren't the cause of the pertussis outbreak in CA.

That article only mentions Mexicans.  Quite a few of the illegal immigrants are from further down. I'm not saying they're the cause, the article is kinda narrow in that regard. I'm also curious if the 9 who died in LA county lived in poor Hispanic neighborhoods.

Immigrants from Central or South America don't simply teleport to the border, they have to travel through Mexico.  The fact that there isn't a pertussis outbreak in Mexico demonstrates that immigrants are not transmitting the virus.  Vaccination rates in these countries are better than in the US.  This is a rich whitey problem.

Refusing to vaccinate your kids, even on religious grounds, should be cause to have the state take them away from you, because at that point, you are an unfit parent.

Does anyone get the feeling that antivax stuff got started by the FSB or China in a covert attempt to destabilize our country?

The KGB started a lot of conspiracy theories to cause agitation back in the day.

ikanreed: Is it too soon to propose a "final solution" to vaccine denialists?  We can just quarantine them in camps.  The death part of the camps will take care of itself, thanks to their attitudes.
