(NPR)   The good news is that it's now illegal, at least in New York, to tattoo your pet. The bad news: people have been getting their farking pets tattooed   (npr.org) divider line 69

I don't think dogs feel any better about themselves if they're sporting some really cool pierced earrings.

However, having a dog sedated while you tattoo relevant information on the inside of it's leg doesn't bother me.
Not all chips are the same, and many systems won't be able to read the information on the chip.

I like dogs more than I like most humans and I have no problem with keeping them safe.

A piercing? I'm at odds with with that, and would never let it happen.

I got my Border Collie biatch from the pound, pre-tattooed with an ID number (probably at the same time they did the spay job on here.)

We've always called it her "tramp stamp."  Lot of love from that $35 investment.

No ID tat? That's a legit case of doggy tattooing.

People do stupid shiat all the time.

The other day I saw some people feeding their kids McDonald's. After that, I saw some people smoking. Then I saw someone buying a bunch of lottery tickets.

Dogs have little or no fur on their bellies.

It's a bit vague in the article.  Is a Pet ID 'medical identification' in nature?  A lawyer could argue that an ID tattoo that's designed to help identify a lost animal isn't medical in nature.  I'd phrase it as 'medical or identification'.  That allows tattooing identification information if that's somebody's choice over a chip, or medical tattoos like those used to line up radiation beam therapy.

Well, at least we nipped this one in the bud when it was still confined to small dogs.
Why, imagine if owners of larger animals decided they wanted to apply vanity tats to their critters...like owners of bulls, or sheep, or horses...

I took my incorrigible rottie for training with someone who participated in dog shows. They tattoo their AKC IDs on the inner thigh (I think) so they're trackable if stolen. The scary part is that when the trend began, they tattooed ears, but the thieves cut off...well, we know what the thieves did :-(

Now that everyone chips dogs, maybe tattoos are going the way of the typewriter.

That's a funny looking dog you got there.

You know, a tattoo wouldn't be a bad thing for my dog. Her head is smaller than her neck, which means that she can slip her collar if she decides to be ornery.

Even worse, she's chipped twice -- once by us, and once by her previous owners. Unfortunately, the chip that shows up on a scan nine times out of ten is the one from the previous owners, who apparently weren't interested in her anymore.  Changing the registration on the old chip is basically impossible, because a lot of companies discovered there's not enough profit in the market to justify a dozen different incompatible chip databases. And it turns out that when companies can't make a profit maintaining a database, they stop maintaining it.  Thanks, free market!

Anyhow, tattoo.  I think I'll talk to the vet about it. They already have a tattoo gun to mark spays, so...

If you tattoo your pet you you have to put A&D on it obsessively so that it won't scab and will heal nicely? And man, when tattoos heal they itch like a motherfarker. So you're either going to put a tattoo where a dog can't scratch it and drive him crazy or you'll put it where he can and he'll fark it up. And then that's $100 wasted.

My dog has a tattoo on his dick. His DICK. 'Cause he's hardcore, biatches. He got it in prison to show the Man nobody owns him.

Of course, the shelter said it was just a marker to show that he'd been neutered. But I prefer my interpretation of my dog having a prison tat.

So, we had this wonderful white kitty named Daisy.  One Christmas I was in the kitchen getting something from the cupboard.  Saw the food coloring in there, then saw Daisy sitting on the floor next to me.  *DING!* something went in my head.  How fun and festive it'd be if I were to dye Daisy in red and green and make her into a Christmas candy cane!!  Yes!  I can do this!!  Festive Kitty!!!

So, I dyed the cat to look like a candy cane!  Instead, she looked like a Mexican street gang tagged her.....

Agreed.  When I got my ankle tat from a friend of mine who was a tattoo artist he went through how much it would probably hurt and post-tat care thoroughly.  No biggie.  The actually healing though, holy fark!  It itched like crazy for almost a week.  My dogs would just sit and try to scratch for days if they went through that.

I'm not sure that word means what you think it means... Or, were you talking about some sort of human-shaped robot but with sheep-like features? Robotic sheeple, as it were?
