So I guess what we learned here is that Rex Ryan is an idiot, Nick Saban is kind of a douche, and Bill Belichick will do anything to win and doesn't really give a shiat. AKA, nothing at all.

2014-06-19 02:30:43 PM
Seriously... stealing the Jets' playbook is like cheating on an aptitude test.

You're not going to learn anything useful, especially if you still have to play against the Jets.

2014-06-19 02:36:37 PM
They thought they were stealing the Jets playbook, but it was just Rex Ryan's dinner menu, which it turns out actually is the Jets playbook.

2014-06-19 03:05:52 PM
It turns out that one of the Patriots players was dating the sister of the halfback on the Jets team just so he could steal the playbook.  The Jets team knew about it so they planted a fake playbook where the Patriots players would see it and steal it.

Of course, when Mike found out about the whole scheme he gave all the players -- Jets and Patriots -- a good talking-to about the importance of playing fair and good sportsmanship.

(in an related subplot, Carol's old flame from high school shows up to watch the game and ends up irritating everyone)

Why?  The "spygate" bullshiat was overblown by a wide margin.  Because he's an asshole?  Most successful people are.  Because he (might/allegedly/possibly) has a copy of the Jets playbook?  Is there a NFL rule against that? Per TFA, Ryan is known for giving out copies of the damn things like they were candy.  Sounds like HE'S the one that should be kicked out of the league....for being a flaming farking retard.

Big deal. Mark Sanchez had the Jets' offensive playbook but couldn't do anything with it.

Brady's career passing completion percentage is 63%. Against the Jets its 62%.
Career TD/INT = 2.7. Against the Jets its 2.9.
He's obviously cheating.

Why did the article try to use those stats as damning evidence? Morans.

They missed a perfect season by a dropped INT and a catch that should never have been made.

All the while, being watched very closely that season for any cheating.

Then they made it back again.

I wouldn't put too much stock in your theory.

They've won their division every year except one (they finished 2nd at 11-5) since their last Super Bowl win....yeah, they've been terrible.

tell me again, what other teams have been remotely that good over the same stretch? Steelers have been good at times, horrible at others.  Same for the Giants.

That 11-5 was without Brady and with Cassell, and they missed the playoffs on tiebreakers.

Yeah, I knew about Brady, but wasn't digging deep enough to find the tiebreaker deal....but again, just kind of reinforces the point of who stupid it sounds when people say "the Patriots suck".  They lost their Super Bowl MVP qb in the second or third game of the season and STILL went 11-5.  Yeah, they're terrible.

I understand not liking them because they are arrogant or they are assholes (and again, anybody that reaches that level of their respective career is an asshole, it's part of what makes them good).  But to bag on their accomplishments like making the playoffs 12 out of 13 years or whatever it is, is just silly.

Sure it may be a fact that the haven't won an Owl since '05, but his theory that it was because of Spygate is a bit stupid.

It's just a head game. The Patriots want the Jets to think they have a copy of their playbook. It's like a few years ago, when the Patriots pretended to be interested in some player, so the Jets drafted him in the first round, when he probably shouldn't have gone until much later. Basically, the Patriots conned them into wasting a first round pick.

Can't remember the guy's name.

I've heard that about Gholston but I find it unlikely that the patriots conned the jets in any way.
The jets picked before the pats anyway so it isn't like they traded up past the pats because they were fed spurious rumors.

Look, you're a Bears fan.  You know that making the playoffs every year doesn't mean much if you don't win it all.  Ask Urlacher how he feels about being division champs/making the playoffs a million times and never a Super Bowl champ

If you google a Jets defensive playbook you come up with this. Some of these things really aren't that hard to come up with.  Pettitine just has a bug up his rear end he wants to let out from having to face Brady the past few years.

Maybe that's the guy. They didn't trade up because they didn't need to trade up. They thought they were keeping him away from a division rival.

I thought it was some fatass defensive tackle. The Pats were rumored to be so hot on him that they were going to trade into the top 5 to get him, instead the Jets traded up to pick him and he sucked out loud.
