Sounds like some of them fancy-pants scientists got their hands on a functional illudium Q-36 explosive space modulator

Spoiler alert: the scientists will be bragging about how they are going to blow up the mountain... but at the last minute they are going to get their eyes poked out and their skulls crushed.

I'll be impressed if they pick up all the pieces and make an island.

Dammit...

I hope they are not planning to build on the rubble.

compact that foundation really, really well before building those telescopes.
if the foundations settle, even a little bit, it might mess up your measurements and make the whole project worthless.

Today, a small puff of smoke will be proudly displayed on top of a hill!

Not worth anybody's time.  This is a little bang, slightly obscured, on top of a huge mountain.  Viewed from 5 miles away.

No, I 'think' it's what the countdown timer is for on the other video. The linked site mentions that the mountain video isn't working right in some way.

I think the video we're supposed to be streaming is the top one, where the preview has the dude at the podium...

Arkanaut: For science, or evil science?

Uhm.... we prefer to call it "Mad", or "super" science these days, please.
Evil just makes is sound....bad, know?

besides.. constructing a giant Death ray to take over the world is more of an engineering thing..

Came for the Tony Stark animated GIF, left disappointed.

I expected a bigger boom, but hearing the Chilean announcer giggle when the explosives went off was entertaining enough.

WELL?  SOMEONE MAKE WITH THE GIF OF THE BOOM.

Hmmm, thread needs more blowed-up in it...

You know how in the United States, they use explosives to implode buildings so they pancake straight down neatly into their footprints?

This is how they do it in other countries.
