I hate to be the one to admit it but frying my mind doesn't take a lot of Crisco.

The first thing I thought of when I read that headline was Time Cube.  I've been on the Internet too long.

Or specifically, the result of endless random mutations guided by environmental pressures that have placed both our eyes in the front of our head, limiting our view.

That was the first time I saw something so awe inspiring I started to dry-heave.

Well, except for that one time with DMT, so I guess the second time.

I think its more than just a lens... its a rig of 4 cameras, and then software to do the stitching.

Four identical cameras/lenses that each have over 90 degrees of wide angle + cloudless night + timed exposure + Hugin to make the panorama + GIMP/PS to crush the bottom of the panorama into the globe

Shooting through the arch is a huge plus

Being forced to view things that are technically outside your vein of perception, but close, tends to have that effect. See the uncanny valley.  Different people react differently. Me, given my shiatty eyes, just kind of went 'ok, it's a top-down view of a hill..?' and moved on.

Not bad, but it didn't blow my mind. One thing I will say: I wish people would just leave the mood music on the shelf. Maybe just a video track? So we don't have to roll our eyes at someone else's idea of "mind-blowing" sounds?

You know that slider on the bottom of the video?

It`s a volume control so you can turn down the video and play your own music which I`m sure, none of us have heard of...

Thanks, I already did that. Except I didn't bother with the music. Time-lapse is (usually) interesting enough that you don't need the superfluous audio channel.
