Looking it up, that game was like 5 years beyond the soccer game we had for our Commodore 64.

My family was a little late on the Nintendo trend. When we got our NES we also got Mario, Nintendo World Cup/Super Spike V'Ball, & Super Off Road.

All three were in heavy rotation (as of course other games were introduced) until we finally moved on to an N64 in 1998. But I think NWC might have seen the most gameplay of any console game in my childhood. Alternating between vs. and co-op was perfect for the waxing and waning of sibling rivalry. Being able to just tackle the opponents unconscious? It made NFL Blitz seem like a perfectly normal vidya game interpretation of a real sport.

I was just looking at the entire tournament

/which, the subby is way off here... they aren't playing the WC matches on these games, this is just a "bracket" to determine the best soccer video game
