And those of you who want the real thing can pay out the ass for a pre-86 model or get a SOT license from the ATF and own all sorts of newly manufactured toys.

How, exactly, is this legal?

It's a flare gun. Grenades are too big, thus it is legal.

Comedicgenius, read the FAQs on the website. Essentially this is a 37mm flare launcher, NOT a 40mm grenade launcher as used by the military. Little more than dressed-up fireworks.

Mind you, when someone says a real grenade launcher, or grenades or machine gun or silencer or sawed-off shotgun or whatever is not legal to own, they are misinformed. Such items are perfectly legal if you go through the hoops set up by the National Firearms Act of 1934 and get yourself checked out by the BATF, fingerprinted, approved by the local law enforcement, comply with state laws and pay a (typically) $200 tax on each item.

So you, too can own and fire a real grenade launcher. Just be prepared to go through the whole procedure for the launcher itself and each and every grenade, and pay a $200 tax on each and every grenade (in addition to whatever they cost initially) and account to the BATF for each and every grenade expended. Simple.

You can too build grenades that can be launched in this thing. They aren't "spin-to-arm" like the 40mm blooper, since the 35mm job isn't rifled.

Don't ask me how I know this.
