To quote farker Butterflew (who I haven't seen around for a while):

Some people actually believe that "Separation of Church and State" only means that the government can't stop you from loving Jesus.

It will come down to a zoning issue. Do you really want to hear the bleating of the sacrificial goats at four in the morning?

I don't know man. When you have government officials on record saying he need not even bother to apply for permits because "His God is not my God", I think the ship for blaming it on a bureaucratic technicality has sailed.

Just tell them that if they don't grant you permission to build your church, your pagan god will become enraged and kill off another 5000 blackbirds, like last time.

Yeah, every lawyer in the world started thinking about their percentage when they read that. The city basically hung out a sign that said "please sue us, we'd like to give you ALL THE MONEY".

Yeah, probably. This guy needs to make a buck somehow because those little made in China Cthulu statuettes he was going to sell in the shop weren't ever going to cover the overhead.

When KARK asked Mayor Robertson about the paperwork, he said that "there was no permit he could apply for." Robertson declined to be interviewed on camera.

Dahl also appealed to his alderman for assistance, but the alderman told KARK that Dahl's "God isn't my God."

Yeah - illegal, he should call the ACLU.  Not that it will do any good, because even if they pointed up that the zoning laws are not against him and other homes in the neighborhood have businesses and what the goddamn MAYOR said, ON CAMERA, was a dead give-away that it's not about zoning... The whole goddamn town of cousin-f*cking peckerwoods are probably as pigf*ck ignorant as their elected officials, and will probably make it impossible for him to live there in peace.  But at least there would be the satisfaction of knowing he won.

2014-06-18 05:17:29 PM
Dahl could not be allowed to open the temple because his residential property was not "zoned commercial, which is what's required for a place of worship or a retail business."

Really tells you more about the state of religion in this country than any poll.

Is it just me or are these people getting dumber? It used to be they'd get away with it because they played the plausible deniable defense. Now they just come out and say what they really think and they think it's the same difference.

I blame the recent Court decision legalizing local religious discrimination when it comes to council prayers. It basically signaled to all the evangelicals that the courts might start considering their point of view.

Also, look at this from the town's point of view. If they turn him down, and he sues and they lose, no problem; it's not their money. However, if they turn him down, he sues, and they win...

I don't know. I didn't have any food, any water and it was very cold, very cold. I thought, I thought if I could save just one, but... he was so heavy. So heavy. I didn't get more than a few miles when the sheriff's car picked me up. The rancher was so angry he sent me to live at the Lutheran orphanage in Bozeman. I never saw the ranch again.
They killed him.

Seems from the article that the city attorney is confused. Either the pagans have never asked for the proper paperwork, or he has issued a "cease or desist" document to them on behalf of the city. Which is it?

Maybe he should apply for a job as the city's "absentminded professor".

I'm sure we will have an army of Genuine Conservatives in here shortly completely outraged at this real, actual, not-kidding around attack on religious freedom.

They may have to take leave from their staunch defense of the War on Christmas, but I just know in my heart of hearts they'll be here soon.

I can just tell.

Really.  Any minute I'm sure.

I don't cherish it at all. I begrudgingly accept it as necessary to keep frightened troglodytes from killing each other over whose fairy tale is real.

And it's a pointless right anyway. Anything protected by it would be just as well served by your protection to free expression anyway.

It's truly amazing that someone in any governmental position can't understand how they are blatantly going against what the 1st Amendment is talking about by pulling shiat like this.

Either that, or they enjoy wasting taxpayer money trying to push their religious beliefs as being more important than the rest of their community (and truly believe the BS argument that the 1st only covers those of the Christian faith).
