I don't know if I'd say worse, necessarily. I mean, you're in the same general category.

Little known fact:   Blitzkreig requires hogging the left lane.

Definitely worse. No German would drive slowly in the left lane, not even an Austrian.

Wait. Are we talking about 2-lane roads? Because that's worth talking about.

If it's freeways, meh. Surrender the thread to "I'm in a bigger hurry that you are" derp.

Personally I am looking forward to the universal proliferation of drone technology to blow the fark out of people who linger in the left lane longer than 10 seconds after making a safe pass of the car to the right of them.

Think I'll head over to whitehouse.gov and start up a petition.

I'll sign it.

Here's a hint.  If the freeway is 5 lanes traveling in the same direction, you are in the 2nd left most lane, and you are getting passed by the cars in the 3 lanes to your right.  You are driving too slow and need to move the fark over.

Also:  the infographic says that Maryland has weak or no laws to encourage people to keep right.

This is painfully obvious to anyone who lives here.

There is a *GIANT* sign on 97N just after you get off of 50 (either direction) stating "SLOWER TRAFFIC - KEEP RIGHT".

Though I can see how you thought it might have been, my intention was not to counter your assertion, per se. It was simply an observation that even if it were the law, Maryland drivers would by and large ignore it.

In my ragier and more passive aggressive moments I've gotten in front of the left lane losers and slowed down to force them out.

Of course that suffers from a few problems.  Chief one being anyone who comes up behind us thinks I'm the left lane hog douchebag.

But on those rare occasions I do this, I'm continually amazed at how many people STAY in the left lane even if I get down into first gear territory.

And its not just the going in the left lane all the time that gets me:  its the 'Going in the left lane at 25MPH
under the mistaken assumption that it makes yakking on your cellphone somehow less douchebaggy'.

All I know is that whenever I find myself impulsively going into the left lane on an open MD road, I know
I've been away from New Jersey (my home state) far too long and need to recharge my driving karma.

I try to only do that when the road is otherwise clear.  But I've burned myself a few times.

These days I've mellowed.  And now that Florida has become a "legally kill anyone who bugs you" state, I don't play that game anymore.  Even my middle finger is atrophied.

I've met a few people who admit to purposely being left-lane campers.  They've all been passive aggressive smug as heck sort of people.

Which explains why there are so many of them in Washington.  About a quarter of people in the state are like that.

What amazes me most is when someone is driving in the left lane, I get up behind them, they eventually switch to the right lane, I pass them and a bunch of cars on my right, get back into the right, and in my rear view I see that original car get back into the left lane and just sit there!

I don't see that very often.

What I do see often are people who drive slowly until you pass them.  Then they suddenly speed up once you're ahead of them.

It is especially bad on country highways that have only one lane per direction and limited passing zones.  There have been a number of times where I got stuck behind somebody driving significantly under the speed limit, only for them to speed up while I am trying to pass them or to speed up after I've passed them.  I don't tailgate or flash my lights, so it isn't like they're trying to get revenge.  I just figure they're farking insane, raging arseholes or both.

It varies by locale, especially when it's only a 2-lane road since, ideally, the right-hand lane is for enterring/exiting.

I.e., on a 3-lane road: left is for passing, right is for getting onto and off of the hwy ("local" traffic), and the center lane if for "express" traffic. On a 2-lane road, you have to make accommodations for the lack of a third lane.

See, that there is part of the problem. "I'm not inconveniencing anyone. It's only a few seconds." The difference between 10 miles at 70mph and 10 miles at 50mph, is four and a half minutes. For someone whose commute is 30 miles of highway, that's nearly 15 minutes you've delayed that person. And that's not counting the surface street travel where you're left lane squatting made them miss a few green lights.

"Leave earlier!" That's great, but it's not always possible. You know what is always possible? Putting on your right turn signal and getting into the lane to your right.

A lot of folks would rather have the extra space in front of them, rather than join the queue and have only a few feet between them and the car preceding them.

God forbid they should just slow down for just a bit to increase the gap. Then again, there are those that see any gap and decide it's a good idea to jam their car into it, even if that then leaves minimal spacing between vehicles.

Me? I like to leave a good stopping distance.

I don't farking drive.  And I got angry too.  I didn't commit this crime you've decided I'm now a perpetrator of.  I just had the self awareness to see how stupid and pointless all the anger was.  Recognizing the irrationality of it is apparently enough to put on onto "their side".

Here I'll play the "don't you hate those guys" game, so you can know I'm your side

Don't you hate those guys who speed up after you pass them so you can't get back out of the left lane like a sane person?

The right lane is for trucks and people who want to take an exit.

Stay in the middle, drive within 5 mph of the speed limit, and let people over when they need to get over.  That's the best way to do things.

/and if you're on the 15 during rush hour, bring a snack, because it's going to be a while

2014-06-18 05:39:00 PM
There should be a "situational awareness" federal law, which allows for people to get arrested if they don't move all the way back on a crowded bus, or if they walk in the middle of a bike path.
