They realized they were playing soccer and committed suicide out of shame?

This is probably the 5,876th variation of this joke, which of course never gets boring itself, has been posted on this website.

Overall this World Cup has had some extremely exiting soccer going on.

That said, the Iran game did spontaneously induce narcolepsy in me.

But for them to get a tie is huge for them, they are probably the worst team to scrape its way into the tourney.  A little context is important.

After the Brazil Mexico game any game would look boring. What a show to have to follow.

The Mexican Keeper is a stud. I'd vote for amnesty if we could get him! I love Howard and all but if he's in the next World Cup he is going to be using a walker.

How the Rest of the World Views Football (Soccer):

Mexico v Brazil: hard-fought close game, thrilling to the end. 0-0 tie.

Iran v Nigeria: slow, boring as hell, and about as exciting as watching turtle fark. 0-0 tie.

How Americans View Soccer (Football):

Mexico v Brazil: A 0-0 tie? They played for NINETY MINUTES and couldn't score??? WTF kind of sport allows a 0-0 tie?!? Why do people watchthis boring-ass shiat? When does the NFL start again?

Iran v Nigeria: A 0-0 tie? They played for NINETY MINUTES and couldn't score??? WTF kind of sport allows a 0-0 tie?!? Why do people watchthis boring-ass shiat? When does the NFL start again?

I've been enjoying the hell out of the World Cup so far. Plenty of upsets, comebacks and excitement. I did miss the Iran-Nigeria game though, but it sounds like nothing was missed.

Howard said he'll retire from the game altogether once his contract with Everton runs out in 2017 (or 2018?), so expect Guzan next time around.

Just in case you are unaware, once you play for a nation you cannot ever play for another nation (excepting special circumstances for merging or splitting nations)

So your advocating invading and annexing Mexico? Works for me. Keeps our troops busy doing something local instead of around the world.

I watched two games yesterday. First, the Brazilian and Mexican juggernauts sleepwalked through a truly pointless game . Then Russia and South Korea put on an impressive display of futility in battling to a 1-1 sister kisser.

Sorry, World. Your game sucks.

Na. They might as well be the 51st state already. Plus they have polar bears, don't want to mess with those.

...

he said, having missed the fantastic, exciting matches

I'm not sure what's more annoying in the sports world, the catty hockey vs. basketball "thing" that exists, or the "I am an American and therefore must find Soccer boring even though farking Baseball is our 'national past time'" trope

/no one cares
//if you don't like it, why watch it?
///the billions of us enjoying it won't stop enjoying it any less
////not knocking Baseball, it's fun to watch too

Nothing at all. I try to find SOMETHING to like about every match, but Iran-Nigeria was tenfold more awful than the next worst game of this Cup so far. It was a crime against the sport. On the plus side, the other 19 matches to this point have all been quite entertaining.
