I am not a dog, scent is way down on my list.  The good smells are never good enough to make up for the rancid ones.

You just aren't noticing all of the good smells. Most of flavor is influenced by smell. Think back to how everything tasted bland when you last had a cold that blocked your sinuses.

Yes, this is true.  But think of how many crime dramas there are with a corpse that's been hanging around for a couple of days. That stank lingers.

Came here to make this point. If you see or hear something disgusting, you can instantly make it go away. Good luck turning off your nose.

Let me put it to you that no species that uses smell as their primary sense can ever achieve high
levels of information technology because that sense is not amenable to digital representation the way
sound and (especially) vision are.
