I predict Chase Daniel will be the starting quarterback for Houston by the end of the year.

I still got faith in the ol' FitzMagic. It's not like the Tennessee Titans or the Buffalo Bills were awesome offense powerhouses without the guy. This might...MIGHT...work.

Meh. The Texans should go 8-8 and I think 10-6 is very possible. The defense is scary (on paper) and Schaubiak is gone. Plus we play a last-place schedule with some really weak opponents in the mix.

Doesn't HOU like to run a vertical offense (I realize with Kubiak gone, the offense might shift strategy)? How does that work with a guy who can't throw over 20 yards?

Why is Fitzpatrick such an awful QB? SCIENCE.

Winston and Mariota will be available next year.

Prediction: Tom Savage will be starting by Week 6 and not because of any injury.

/I predict a 7-9 season.
//That sounds better than a 2-14 season
///Slashies!

Run the ball, play good defense, let this Harvard gent (seriously: who cares about that anymore) just audiable to play action every once and a while. Can win 8 games that way, get a young QB next draft.

Like the Jets, but dont pick Sanchez.

How else are they supposed to get Marcus Marriota?

"Sorry, guys. The Bears might want somebody in that draft, it turns out."

/The Bears learned nothing from the Caleb Hanie era.

Seems premature to name a starter, particularly when the coach is new. O'Brien probably buys the myth that QB "controversies" are distracting and bad for the team. Or maybe he just wants to project an image of himself as decisive and in control.

Or he realized just how bad the other options were.

I think he would do alright in a balanced offense that didn't really 100% on his arm. He can certainly manage the game. His problem with the Titans was we had no run game last year (Johnson's cutback isn't all that effective anymore for whatever reason) so he was forced to throw in situations where everyone knew it was coming

/just not in week 1

Lots of good QBs in the next draft.  It will be easy to find a quality replacement late in the first round.  I'd be happy if they ended up with Hundley or Marriota.

I think they are hoping that the D can pitch shutouts all season.

Why do teams with quarterback needs reach for mediocre QBs in the first round of the draft?  Drafting a mediocre QB in the first round sets your team back years when he doesn't pan out.

If there isn't a QB who you think is a stud this year, just sign a competent veteran to start for the year, and draft a QB next year.  This is what Houston is doing, and it's damn smart.
