I can't believe that the video was the motivation after all.

well yeah!  the funny part is that he could say that the attack was a direct order from the real leader of the islamic uprising against america, barry soetoro HUSSEIN 0bunga, and they'd completely believe it.

I'm not sure how much more apart this "scandal" can fall, at this point.

Not if a democrat is president.  Obviously.

Fox News will claim Khattala's really Susan Rice in disguise.  Republicans will demand evidence he is not during their kangaroo court hearings.

What does the motivation have to do with it?  I mean, sure it proves there were armed insurgents in the area, threatening an attack, and the Secretary of State decided it was not really that big of a threat, which caused a slow response and lead to the deaths of two navy seals and an ambassador.

Besides that, I mean.

That's the question many of us have been asking.  Your member of Congress seem to be fixated on it, though.  The same ones who didn't think diplomatic security was important.

You know what I just realized? This is Obama's "releasing the birth certificate" moment for the Benghazi truthers

/will the GOP shut the f*ck up about this now?
//please?
///fark it, lets just vote Issa out

I will sit here waiting patiently for the Derp Brigade to apologize to Susan Rice.

Why did Susan Rice go on national TV and say it was motivated by video, knowing full well that even if that were true she would be soundly mocked people with a visceral hate for Obama and his administration?  Do you call that leadership?  Don't you expect our diplomats to anticipate such thinly veiled tactics by those that seek to hurt them?  I certainly do.

And here's a better question -- did she decide to tell the truth on her own or was she handed truthy talking points by Obama and Hillary?  I think the American people deserve answers.

Yes, at this point the three people whose lives were tragically ended through the incompetence of the State Department can't be reclaimed, so what difference does it make?

You know damn well you are full of shiat. People like you will continue to drag their corpses through the dirt in an effort to pin the blame on who you fond politically expedient, while pretending to actually give a fark about them.

This trial is going to be a circus... It will be held in the DC Circuit, just a few blocks from Capitol Hill. I look forward to Abu Khattala's defense calling Issa to testify about how this is all Obama's fault. And then the US Attorney having to impeach their witness.

For what reason would one of the President's closest allies be tortured?

This supposed "admission" is simply proof of the depth of the conspiracy. Clearly, this was not mere incompetence of the Administration and of the State Department. This was clear collusion with terrorists, complete with a calculated effort to "capture" the supposed "ringleader" of the attack just so that he could conveniently "confirm" the bogus motivation for killing our brave American citizens. What the President failed to consider, however, is just how this admission justifies the President's willful interference in a rescue operation with a "stand down" order issued to the brave Seals and Core members who were ready to air-drop in at a moment's notice.

Finally, the truth will be coming to light. Zer0bama thought that he planted the truth deep but he forgot that the truth is like a potato: eventually it will grow out of the surface.

What it proves, despite extensive derp by Republicans about Al Qaeda's role in directing the attack, Darrell Issa's ineffectual attempts to prove that association, and Trey Gowdy's new, ever weirder search for confirmation to make this the defining scandal of the Obama presidency, the attack on the consulate was not that of an organized terrorist group. It was just some grumpy guy pissed at a video.

Mr. Abu Khattala is a local, small-time Islamist militant. He has no known connections to international terrorist groups. This lack of association is based on his own statements, US officials briefed on the criminal investigation, Benghazi Islamists and militia leaders who have known him for many years.

Now the right will pretend that the reason never mattered and what is important is that lives were lost and we shouldn't waste time on petty semantics like calling it terror or terrorism.

2014-06-18 09:50:44 AM
I should note also that this "capture" seems quite interestingly timed, just as Oblahblah's friends at ISIS have turned the nation of Iraq, which had been transformed into a bastion of democracy in the previous administration, into a Danger Zone.

Clearly they are just trying to distract from real scandals like Obama's failure to win the peace in Iraq.

They might, but it's easily refuted by pointing out that he apparently said these things at the time of the attack, not while he was in custody.

More likely, the derpers will just say the NYT is making it up.

The trolls yesterday who lifelessly threw out "video" talking point comments are hilarious in retrospect. Sometimes fate has a sense of humor, and I hope we'll get more as evidence comes out... On the same Benghazi time, same Benghazi channel.

Maybe they'll supoena the producers of the video in question and make motive a consideration. Of course, any sentence for inciting would be 100 hours of community service like "Yelling fire in a crowded theater "  and other public service.

Stop it!  These facts are disagreeing with our narratives.  You're wrong!

2014-06-18 10:09:01 AM
We knew (or should have known) that Ansar al-Shariah pointed to the video as the motivation behind their involvement in a protest in the first place. Here is the statement they released immediately afterwards, from the Long War Journal (a conservative foreign policy website.)

Now here is where this is too simplistic to blame the video. First, it doesn't appear that this was actually a protest that then grew into a riot. Virtually all the people present outside the consulate were Ansar al-Shariah affiliated and they opened fire with the RPG shortly after the "protest" began. Also, we have reason to suspect that this wasn't solely motivated by the protests of the video happening throughout the Middle East. There was a history of smaller attacks on the consulate in the months leading up to this and the fact they were loaded for bear when they arrived suggests they may have been planning a higher profile attack for some time now. The video may have given them an opportunity for plausible deniability and it almost certainly contributed to the timing of the attack, That said it isn't likely it motivated Ansar al-Shariah to target the US presence in Benghazi; the animosity was already present.

It's a level of nuance that is lost in all this because it doesn't fit on a bumper sticker, but it's overly simplistic to claim it was just a response to the video and outright false to claim the video story was a lie by the administration.

Ah, but he's one of THEM. You can't believe a thing coming from one of THEM. Therefore, by disagreeing with the narrative, he is actually proving the narrative.

And now if you'll excuse me, I need to take an aspirin. I think I sprained my brain writing that.
