Well, they're still tired after all that work they did capturing Kony.

Maybe they should try appearing in a different color, like green or something. That would probably make them a lot more effective.

I thought Twitter was bumping 'hashtags' when does that happen? So stupid

Yes, but they make the Twits feel important and that is all that really matters. No alleged sexual assaults, no cause for outrage. We can't have that.

Hashtags as the modern-day version of intercessory prayer?  I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but that makes almost too much sense.

No, I get it.  I'm on your side.  The best way to make male allies is to make up statistics and blame all the ills of the world on males.  And whenever a woman DOES do something wrong, you can blame it on internalized misogyny.

Are you really saying that people wouldn't question a car thief victim if they leave the keys in the ignition and a "Steal me" sign on the dashboard?

And are you saying that we SHOULDN'T tell young men and women that it's a bad idea to walk down a dark alley at four in the morning?

Misleading headline. Welcome to Fark.

The article states that recent Egyptian laws against sexual assault are ineffective. A couple of Egyptian women talked about sexually harassing men. A Brazilian survey was withdrawn due to protests.

What's the headline about? This one paragraph:
In 2012, some Egyptian women unveiled a site called HarassMap, started by American-born Rebecca Chiao, which allows women to report instances of abuse by texting or tweeting using the hashtag #harassmap. But that tool hasn't slowed sexual harassment.

The purpose of the map isn't really to stop sexual harassment (although that would be nice). It's to find the extent of the problem, and counter arguments that it doesn't happen, or that it only happens in certain neighborhoods or to certain types of women.

We use these reports to show people the scale of the problem and to dispel myths about, and excuses for, sexual harassment - like for example that 'how women dress' or 'sexual frustration' are reasons and excuses for sexual harassment and/or assault.

Some of the Tweeters were saying "4 in 5 women are raped by the age of 18". I shiat you not. You are telling me that stat isn't total bullshiat? Their stats were very, very varied. What are the real stats?

And despite what you may believe, the vast majority of men find rapists to be despicable human beings who they would love to kick the shiat out of. But when you claim all men are rapists and evil based on obviously fake statistics, it rustles our jimmies.

No, you don't.  Making this argument makes you a dumbass, though.

"Wherever there are men are clearly places women should be extra careful"

I farking love how completely uncritical you are about this idea.  "It's not too much to ask to compare all situations to crime ridden neighborhoods(and then think blaming the victim in that situation is also okay), because that's only fair, when talking about rape."

It's pathetic, and shows just how low your opinion of men is.  Honestly.

They have a lot of tricks.  Mary Koss did the study (in the 1970s) that is the basis for a lot of current stuff.  She counted EVERYTHING that a woman experienced as rape and NOTHING that happened to men as rape.  The terms also get conflated.  Sexual assault is terrible and sounds scary, but it's been redefined.  (Just as autism rates magically rise as the term encompasses more behaviors.)  And in some municipalities, it's legally impossible for a man to be raped.

busy chillin': I was curious what the male equivalent of feminist is, I thought it would be meninist...but it is masculism. Learn something new every couple days.

I think that the fact that we don't have a word for it is a demonstration of why we need masculism or whatever it should be called.

Oh no "some people" said something stupid.  There is no lower limit to the quality of ideas embraced by "some people", and you expect me to take that obvious fact as some kind of deconstruction of the very valid observations that do exist?
