Don't forget to update your predictions! https://predictor.talksport.com

I remembered late to put in my predictions for this round. More upsets coming, I think. The one upset that I'm hoping comes off is the USA with a shock win over Portugal. As long as I'm dreaming, I would also like a threesome with Olivia Wilde and Deborah Ann Woll.

Netherlands will come in strong, knock a few past Australia and then put in their B team.
I can't imagine a surprise victory or even draw for the Soccerroos

I hope Chile can destroy Spain, but I'm not sure that it's gonna happen.

Croatia needs a win badly here, and I think they're going to get it if they have an official that hasn't been paid off.

Everything's setting up perfectly for a US upset of Portugal. Injuries, suspensions, demoralization, a tough stadium.

Fingers crossed.

I have no idea what's going to happen today:

AUS 0 NED 4
ESP 1 CHI 1
CMR 1 CRO 2

AUS 0 NED 2
ESP 2 CHI 1

Not counting anything out on Sunday.  CR7 might decide to repeat his performance v. Sweden and sweep 'em aside.  Then again, the US scores a goal early, then Portugal start falling to pieces, a 2nd US goal comes, and Portugal crashes out of the tournament.

I'm somehow tied for first, ahead of a certain time machine-wielding individual.

HaywoodJablonski: AUS 0 NED 2

Yeah, that sounds about right to me.  The Aussies might be tougher to break down than Spain was; the Dutch will still get all 3 points but they'll work for them.

ESP 2 CHI 1

That might be a nippier game than that.  A 1-1 or 2-2 draw.

CMR 1 CRO 1

Nah, can't see Cameroon getting anything if Croatia repeat their showing of the opening game.  CMR 0, CRO 3.

I can't see Spain all but crashing out in the 2nd game. They'll throw the kitchen sink at Chile.

I don't know much about Croatia or Cameroon at this point, but it wouldn't be the World Cup without a surprise draw between also-rans

No problemo.

Probably going to miss the matches today unfortunately, maybe bits and pieces here and there. Will be driving in a bit, and then teaching classes tonight. Maybe the Spain Chile match.

I have things today as:

AUS 0-3 NED (Banker)
ESP 2-1 CHI (I can't see Spain being that crap again)
CMR 0-1 CRO (I'm really undecided on this one, but I'm saving the insurance for USA-POR)

2014-06-18 11:24:13 AM
It will be interesting to see what changes Spain makes. I would put Koke in for Xavi and Javi Martinez in for Xabi Alonso. Pedro should start over Silva, too. They need someone else besides Costa in the XI who can finish. It's too bad De Gea got injured because he should get the nod over Casillas after his debacle against Netherlands.

Not doing the predictor, but I don't think AUS is good for 2 on NED. And after the NED game, you don't think CHI can put one up on ESP?

I wasn't able to watch BRA/MEX live, but I caught the condensed version from about 30' onwards on ESPN last night.  I guess I must have missed something amazing by Ochoa, because I "only" saw one elite GK save (a point blank header, I think, but that was shot right at him).  the wya the thread read, i thought I would some crazy acrobatic, sprawling, 'Matrix', "how the fark did he do that?" kind of saves.

a clean sheet is a clean sheet (and scraping a point v BRA is laudable to say the least) but, it wasn't what it was billed to be.  Unless I missed some of those amazing saves, as like i said, i only saw from about 30' onwards.

*shrug*

I have bets going with the USA-Portugal game.

I will take 6 bets. One for 1 year of TF, 5 for 1 month of TF. I am betting that the USA will tie or beat Portgual.

I have:

Netherlands 2 - 0 Australia (Banker)
Spain 2 - 1 Chile
Croatia 2 - 1 Cameroon

and -10 points at the moment.

My "Iran's awful, put the banker on Nigeria" strategy failed to take into account that Nigeria might play awful too.

I need Croatia to win 3-0 against Cameroon so they can draw against Mexico while Cameroon beats Brazil 2-0 on the last day. Croatia and Mexico through to the next round on GD.

Well, it should be noted I did the whole group stage in one go before the tournament got started, just in case I forgot.

Chile's good, but they're no Netherlands. And Australia's not THAT bad. They can quite capably take goals off people; they just have their limit and this group's past that limit. In one of the lesser groups, E, F, H, maybe they can go through.
