Timothy Roberts thought he was stepping into the front car of the Banshee, but he was really stepping into.... The Twilight Zone.

It's the bane of journalists,  subby: a slow news day and you have to come up with something.

Oh my god think of the children. They were stuck up there without their smart phones for literally minutes. Are we going to stand by and allow this to happen. What if it were your child?

"Things like that happen," he said. "It's not even a story."

True enough. Doesn't this kind of thing happen a lot? I remember being stuck for about half an hour on the upward climb on the Eagle at Great America sometime around 1996 and we didn't get so much as a free soda out of the deal, much less a news story.

The first year the Magnum was running -- Back when it was the tallest coaster in the world -- I got stuck at the very top of the highest hill for around half an hour.

But that's nothing compared to the time I had to hide on a carousel during a tornado. Honestly, I don't remember it, but I'm told it was a scary situation.

Exactly... though it's funny that the "journalist" included this very quote in his non-story.

Meh, it ain't no Wild Mouse for death machines.

/the lore of deaths on "Wild Mouse" coasters is still vastly overrated

I used to love the Magnum. It's too bad the foundations shifted and the coaster is horribly jerky now.

Worst time I got stuck was on Flight of Fear at King's Island (known as Joker's Jinx or Poltergeist at Six Flags parks, only this one indoors without any kind of lighting). We were upside down for 15 minutes in complete darkness and had to be manually rolled to the mid-track escape platform. And everyone had horrible head aches because this was before they replaced the shoulder restraints with lap bars and everyone's heads were knocked back and forth during every inversion.

My family and I were actually stuck for thirty minutes on the It's a Small World ride. It's just as surreal and maddening as you would think, with that song  droning over and over. Got a free E-ticket out if it.

Thank god they didn't get stuck coming halfway down the hill.

Roller coaster...

SAY WHAT?!

I was rather surprised at how smooth the ride on Banshee is... I don't know if it's because it's still new or not... but it had no rough patches to speak of.

Now the G-forces it puts you through are pretty intense, but nothing rough.

Of course, if you want rough, ride the Beast.

My sister and I were just little kids, so at first we thought it was neato, but by the end, I think my parents wanted to kill us.

Hell, if it's still there at Cedar Point, ride the venerable Gemini. Last time I was on it, I think I got off with several dozen bruises from being banged around. I think I've gotten less beaten up if I'd signed up for a boxing match.

Naw, just rode it last year. It's still good. You are thinking of the mine ride. That coaster is quite the jerk.

Was that at Cedar Point as well? Mid-late '70's? We were there on "tornado day". I was only about 5, or so but remember everyone taking cover wherever we could, and being freaked out by how quiet a full crowd at Cedar Point was. That was the last year my dad came with us. /my brother recently told me he was next in line when one of the coasters got stuck at the top of the hill. He said it was about 95°, and the were up there about 30 minutes. He said you could see them getting burned by the sun. He, and others, opted out to ride something else.

I think some roller coaster should install a speaker system at the top of the initial drop. They should then stop the cars at the top and announce over the speakers that there was a track failure further along and to remain calmly seated. Right after that start the car up again for the rest of the ride. Thrills!

Screw that place anyway. If you want to ride a roller coaster, go to Cedar Point. Stay at the Hotel Breakers and you can get in the park an hour before it opens to the general public. You can hit the super popular ones before there's even a line. My wife and I do this every June.

During a gig in Las Vegas, I got stuck on the coaster at New York, New York for about 20 minutes.  Luckily, it was at the bottom of the lift hill, but it was pretty boring.  The coaster itself was pretty cool, had a couple of inversions and wrapped around the casino.

The Sponge Bob Rock Bottom Coaster at the Maul of America is pretty neat, too, with a couple of inversions and IIRC a 95-degree first drop.  Only fault is that it's a very short ride.

Likewise, the Chip 'n' Dale coaster (forget the actual name) at Disneyland would be a really nice coaster, but it lasts--I swear--about 15-20 seconds after the first drop.

On a really freaky day at Valleyfair, me and a friend got to ride the Wild Thing (200' drop) about 5 times in a row and got the front seat a couple of times.

Finally, I wasted a lot of time playing Roller Coaster Tycoon as you can tell by the screenshots.  Was a power player and won a few contests, but now my art career is taking off and I don't really play video games much any more...

And, finally, not a coaster, but an image of the Mona Lisa I created in RCT...

I'm jealous, have fun! If you haven't been on GateKeeper yet, you're in for a treat. Also last time we rode Top Thrill Dragster 3 times in a row without waiting, once in the very front, it was SICK.
