For anyone who's seen the Conan reboot and hates the very idea of Aquaman... this is a good casting choice.  It'll be a shiat character, played by a shiat actor that will likely be around only for one shiat movie.

/But, you say, he was great as Khal Drogo
//Yes, but how much acting did he really have to do?

Well he learned Dothraki, and he was featured in some pretty convincing action sequences, and he was convincing as both a raper and a reformed raper. So that's like the full spectrum there.

/I bet Meryl Streep can't speak Dothraki. Checkmate.

The only time that actor has come up in conversation was when I said "Isn't that the character that rapes that white haired girl in game of thrones". That sent one of my friends into a fit about how it wasn't rape and how she was actually using him, or she wanted it (her argument didn't make much sense).

No actor has worked harder portraying an underwater superhero than Patrick Duffy. I bet his back never recovered from whatever the fark kind of swimming that was. I bet this new guy doesn't even get wet. It'll all be CGI.

Still think Namor is cooler. And yeah, I thought that Namor Vs Aquaman battle was pants-on-head retarded. DC always seems to insist their their snowflakes always win, even when up against other heroes.

If I remember correctly, that DC vs Marvel thing you're talking about had readers vote on who should win to decide the results of the fights.

It was kind of silly to have a killer whale jump on Namor and squash him, though.

Anyhow if it is true it is a bad idea because Momoa cannot sing.

I'd watch a movie of that Aquaman. I don't know if Momoa can pull of that level of cheerful, hammy OUTRAGEOUSNESS.

Now, Brian Blessed in his prime, he'd have made an amazing Aquaman...

TFA is describing the Pre-Crisis version, not the modern version. They're way off. He's a lot cooler than that.

For one thing, he's telepathic. He has an EASIER time controlling and calling sea-life (ALL sea life, including "monsters"), but he CAN do some things with land dwellers, too.

He's not just "a pretty good swimmer" -- He swims as fast as any marine mammal, he's super-strong, he's incredibly durable (able to withstand the pressures of the ocean floor!) and yes, he's amphibious so he can breathe on land or at sea.

Ehh... That kinda makes me like him less. Trying to fix a lame character by giving him more superpowers just makes him a very powerful lame character. It'd be like if Lucas tried to "fix" Jar Jar in AotC by giving him force powers.

He's much more fun when he's embracing the goofyness.

By that society's definition, she was a piece of property given to him in a deal with her brother, so by he didn't do anything wrong based off the moral system he was raised in.

I find the whole PC police around Game of Thrones kind of funny, especially when rape is considered the worst thing ever in a show where people get horribly tortured and killed all the time. Jamie rapes Cersei? Huge outcry. A guy gets flayed, has his penis cut off, and then is mentally broken to the point where he is a slave to his torturer? Crickets. I'm not saying rape ISN'T bad, but I find it odd that so many people consider it off limits for morally gray characters to cross that line in the misanthropic horror show that is GoT. It would make for a boring story if everyone were a bunch of black and white heroes and villains.

I missed Conan in theaters, and was psyched for a 'B' movie home video experience in HD, but even on that level it failed...  I was bored out of my mind the first 15 minutes, so i decided to fast-search thru the entire movie to see if anything cool happens later, and it simply never did.

You can give him all the powers you want, Johns. You can cast the biggest meathead you can get, Warner Bros. You can retcon everything you want, DC. But at the end of the day he's still Aquaman, the Marty Janetty of the Justice League.

Nahh... Brian Blessed HAS to do the voice of Marvel's Hercules. They can cast some wrestler or body builder to play him, but it has to be Blessed who gives the LION OF OLYMPUS his bold voice.

they didn't, they just used his powers in a more logical way. He lives at great depths, so his physiology is more durable, and able to avoid more damage (though not to Superman/Wonder Woman's level). He also is a damned King, that does count for something. "Injustice" used this well, showing his power and respect. The only thing they really did is take away the 1 hour requirement, because it was shackling the character. It'd be like saying Superman must see the sun every day. It's just an artificial limit that is more annoying to work around "Oh wait, you brought a heat lamp!". Aquaman' is even stupider, because any extended mission would have water for everyone else anyway. They did a lot of this post-Crisis. They made a GL's ring work on a percentage of use rather then "Once a day", and they never put a hard limit on Superman's solar energy capacity. They made Wonder Woman just fly rather than the invisible jet. GA dropped the gimmick arrows and  got a little more aggressive. All kinds of small tweaks that made it much better.

I feel the need to point out that pretty much every major superhero has repeatedly been upgraded over time with more superpowers to make them more powerful.

DC hate drafting Momoa away from Marvel.  Wouldn't want him to be the perfect Namor.
