So Fox News is sure to run with it!!

And she may not ever have said it, but she certainly did have fake peasant cottage with sheep and cows, where she could go and play with the animals after someone had cleaned them and pretend that she was a simple shepherdess

I imagine the actual peasants- who were starving- weren't thrilled with that.

svanmeter: Diogenes: svanmeter: All the finger pointing at this point amounts to taking your eye off the ball. The true question here is Obama acting to protect OIL interest$, or is he being played for a fool by the Iranians to attack their Sunni enemies for them?

So you're refocusing us by pointing a finger at Obama?  I'm really not following your post at all.

If you think Obama is relevant to the ongoing unraveling of Iraq at this point you're really deluding yourself.

There would have been a strong possibility of this happening even if we had fully committed ourselves to Operation Enduring Occupation.  Regardless of who sits in the White House.

I am refocusing by pointing out IRAN's role in forcing Obama's hand. They threaten involvement, which caused Obama to rethink his initial impulse to stay out and blame Bush. Obama changed his mind and then said he "would consider all options" (while he sent in Aircraft carriers). He wanted to do nothing, but the specter of Iranian action caused his reversal. Now Iran can sit back and laugh while Obama does their dirty work against ISIS. Does this clarify it for you or are you still confused? Are you one of those who doesn't know the difference between Iran and Iraq? Let me spell it out for you again... Obama is motivated by protecting OIL interests in the region and he is being played for a fool by the Iranians.

You do know that Iran has had the Iraqi government in the palm of their hand since, about, oh, March 3, 2008?  Whether we do something or nothing in regards to the ISIS, Iraq will still be a client state to the Iranians, no action on our part changes this.  And the fact that Iraq would become an Iranian client state was a foregone conclusion as soon as we invaded Iraq and took out Saddam, which many Leftist critics of the Iraqi war pointed out before the war occurred.

The only question now informing the president is whether we wish to allow ISIS to fester in their little bulwark of Iraq potentially resulting in attacks on American interests at home or abroad as they slaughter Iraqis indiscriminately or we take action to hinder their ability to project their force, possible in our direction, by droning and cruise missilling them to hell. As for me, I only wish that if we do decide to play it safe and attack with drones and cruise missiles in order to prevent ISIS from becoming a threat akin to al Qaeda proper, that the Iraqi government will pay for it.

You know who else prevented the invasion now roiling in Iraq?

Saddam Hussein.

Yep... but there are some things worse than war, and Saddam's "peace" wasn't worth the price. Two words: "children's prisons."

"The prison in question is at the General Security Services headquarters, which was inspected by my team in Jan. 1998. It appeared to be a prison for children - toddlers up to pre-adolescents - whose only crime was to be the offspring of those who have spoken out politically against the regime of Saddam Hussein. It was a horrific scene. Actually I'm not going to describe what I saw there because what I saw was so horrible that it can be used by those who would want to promote war with Iraq, and right now I'm waging peace." - Scott Ritter, UN weapon inspector and anti-war activist

Iraq is a country that never should have been in the first place.  The borders are unnatural and ignore HUGE historical tribal/cultural and religious divides.   The notion that you can combine factions that have been warring for over a thousand years into a single, unified nation is absolutely ridiculous.  The notion that it can be done without crippling oppression, tyranny and brutality is even more asinine.

Saddam ruled the only way a "country" like Iraq could be ruled.  His reign was disgusting and violated just about every possible interpretation of human rights - but it was the only to keep the population from revolting and returning to their equally brutal thousand year war.

Democracy will NEVER work there because the party voted into power will ALWAYS use the opportunity to issue violent retribution for transgressions dating back to 900AD.   The US is a young country - and as such has no concept of these centuries-long historical grudges or how to end - or even contain them.  When Osama bin Laden published his gripe referencing the Ottoman Empire, Americans collectively shrugged their shoulders.  What we didn't understand is they are fighting wars they didn't start and certainly will not end in their lifetimes.  But they understand this.

There is no political or military solution to end the hate and mistrust these factions have for one another.

If you want Iraq as it currently exists on a map - you're gonna either have never-ending civil war or brutal tyranny.  But if you want anything remotely resembling peace and unity in the region, you're gonna have to let the country split up, allowing borders to form organically.  You can't have it both ways.

Did George Bush anticipate these problems when he signed an agreement with the Iraq government in 2008 which called for the removal of all US troops from Iraq by the end of 2011? Hmm

Yesterday John Stewart called out the media for seeking the "wisdom" of the same idiots that advocated for the Iraq war in the first place. These people have zero credibility whatsoever since they were completely and utterly wrong about this war. If they say one thing, then you would be safe to believe the opposite.

It's absolutely mind boggling why people are even listening to these idiots like they know what the fark they are talking about. For instance, if it was up to McCain the U.S. would have become involved in Libya, Syria, Georgia, Ukraine and now, once again, Iraq and the U.S. would have had

The same goes for Bush. If he could really anticipates problems with Iraq then he wouldn't have pushed for that stupid, pointless farking war in the first place.

The US needs to stay the fark out of this mess. Learn your lesson, stop interfering militarily with other countries, it isn't worth the cost.

Well no sh*t, I knew that fifteen minutes after our first guys hit the ground. Does that make me freaking God or something?!

Anyone with half an ounce of brains knew that once we landed in there the power vacuum was going to be such an incredible vortex of suck it was going to turn the country inside out. In fact, IIRC, that was  known quite some time before that. I wonder who that might have been.....

Because if we'd gone to Baghdad we would have been all alone. There wouldn't have been anybody else with us. There would have been a U.S. occupation of Iraq. None of the Arab forces that were willing to fight with us in Kuwait were willing to invade Iraq. Once you got to Iraq and took it over, took down Saddam Hussein's government, then what are you going to put in its place? That's a very volatile part of the world, and if you take down the central government of Iraq, you could very easily end up seeing pieces of Iraq fly off: part of it, the Syrians would like to have to the west, part of it - eastern Iraq - the Iranians would like to claim, In the north you've got the Kurds, and if the Kurds spin loose and join with the Kurds in Turkey, then you threaten the territorial integrity of Turkey. It's a quagmire if you go that far and try to take over Iraq. The other thing was casualties. Everyone was impressed with the fact we were able to do our job with as few casualties as we had. But for the 146 Americans killed in action, and for their families - it wasn't a cheap war. And the question for the president, in terms of whether or not we went on to Baghdad, took additional casualties in an effort to get Saddam Hussein, was how many additional dead Americans is Saddam worth? Our judgment was, not very many, and I think we got it right" --Dick Cheney, 1992

Bush's foreign policy is what allowed Al Qaeda to establish a presence in Iraq which then blossomed into ISIS.

stan unusual: tbeatty: Well, compared to what we have now, Bush was frickin' psychic (okay, he only has to be reasonably competent to outpace this administration).  Bush looks better and better everyday Obama is president.  Yesterday, half the apologists for Obama claimed no one could have seen this coming when he pulled troops out and the other half said it's obvious that the absence of Saddam left a huge power vacuum that would lead to this.   Somehow "unpredictably obvious" is something Joe Biden or John Kerry might say as a legitimate response to incompetence.

You obviously DNRTFA.  You claim "Bush was a frickin' psychic" because he predicted that their would be increased violence and instability in Iraq if US troops were withdrawn and after that psychic insight he signed an agreement that legally bound the US to withdraw its troops.  If Bush was indeed psychic- then his agreement to withdraw troops borders on treason.

Well, I was merely pointing out only the most serious consequence of electing a Republican.  Obama has done nothing that I would consider "useless and dangerous"; both McCain/Palin and Romney would have done plenty in that category.
