I have fun with "totes".

Of course, I use it only on Fark, and only when I'm being snarky or attempting to be funny. I couldn't see really using it.

Talk to the hand

That's still a thing. Sigh. Isn't that from Ricki Lake's Show back when I was a few years old?

Crazy biatches don't need TV teaching them how to be crazier biatches.

The thing I don't get about the abbreviations like jelly and totes is you're not saving a whole lot of time. shiat, cray cray is probably more trouble to say than crazy. Also half the time you have to explain what you mean.

The point of slang is always brevity, and in no way serves as cultural identification or provides connotations or tone.  Genius.

Yeah, I use 'fetch' as a joke sometimes, too... :-)

Of course, that's becoming a Fark trademark, also.

You get that the structure contains an implicit mockery of the argument presented, right?  The idea of the fragment helps reinforce the oversimplification you're alleging someone is making.  This framing isn't just a way of shortening something down, but it's a way of verbally demonstrating the paucity of thought used.

They're slang, not abbreviations, that's your first mistake.

Abbreviations aren't always shorter when speaking either. Take 'www', for example. It's an abbreviation for 'world wide web', yet it's got 3x the syllables.

It's not the abbreviation itself that bothers me. It's that this form of circumlocution is especially irritating. Think about it: If you don't like the phrase "my bad" I doubt it's because you can't stand people who accept responsibility for their mistakes.

And I don't think it's used the way you say very often anymore. More often than not merely an interjection of excitement.

I only ever see it in the mocking sense, but it's possible my perspective is skewed by some sort of bubble.  I will grant you the benefit of the doubt, and let you be as annoyed as you want.

I think it's great what yinz have managed to do without using the standard English verb form "to be". I mean, most of us learned a past, present, AND future form of the participle, but I guess Pittsburgh istoo cool from grammar school.

The article states that "vintage" is still an ok word to use. To me, when i hear that, i either think of it as a hipster fashon statement or an old piece of furnature that someone did not take care of.

"I sit on my vintage sofa that I found at the side of the road while wearing vintage glasses that dont even have lenses while sipping wine and posting selfies to instagram with my iPad because I like to be ironic."

I will not rest until that damnable term is stricken from the English language.

He can't stand "my bad," but he's happy to keep "adorbs"?

Arbitrary distinction is arbitrary.

"Hash tag" can die any day, though.  It's fine online, but it sucks as an enunciation.

I have a own word on the urban dictionary ... ok, it was a typo some time ago, but what the hell.

// yes, it was a farker
/// but not me

A cool project would be a translator from English to Urban Dictionary.

...then translate the works of Shakespeare and the original Star Wars trilogy entirely into UD.

I would love to see the words "selfie" and "hashtag" eliminated.   It's not a "hashtag"; it's a "pound sign"; and
you don't take "selfies"; you take "pictures of yourself".
