Thanks, mods, for greening this.  Last week, his mom, my niece,  noticed his tummy was swollen. By the next day it was hard as a rock so they rushed him to the ER in the little town they live in.  After a scan the doctors there realized it was out of their league, and had him taken to UC Davis Medical Center (arguably one of the best hospitals in the country) where the neuroblastoma was diagnosed.  It started in his adrenal glands and moved to his liver. Hopefully it has not spread beyond that.  They are trying to figure out the best course of action right now - surgery, chemo, radiation or a combination of the three.  No matter what, the poor little guy has a very rough road ahead of him as do his parents, Julie and Jason.  They haven't left his side and have barely slept in a week.

I know money is tight all around, so I sincerely say, any kind of prayer or good juju you can send their way is appreciated.

While it's a terrible that this is happening to your nephew, it appears like they discovered it quickly which hopefully means it can be resolved with surgery and little else.  It's scary but hopefully he is in good hands and can get the care he needs.

I'm so sorry.  As I'm coming out of a period of unemployment and haven't caught up on bills yet, I can offer nothing but my good thoughts that he can beat it and that it was caught early.

Eventually, if enough people hear about this, some jerkass is going to suggest that karma is somehow to blame for this, no matter who you are or how good a person you are.  When it happens, don't get mad, don't get indignant. Just take a deep breath and imagine the hell that guy would be about to go through if karma actually worked that way.

/the only advice I can think of that you won't hear over and over.

I read up some info about it. That kid has it rough now and looks like he'll have a rough life ahead of him.

Hopefully it's nothing serious now and won't cause other serious issues later in life.
