@Delta I demand a formal apology on delta letterhead. This is a travesty. I can't believe this is happening

Oh, and it has to be signed in blood at the CEO's desk while that flight attendant is waving her no-no finger too.

Delta should compensate me with $1 million for the emotional distress this has caused me.

Ghana is in fact FAMOUS for its lack of giraffes, to the point that most Ghananians find images of giraffes deeply offensive.

2014-06-17 10:58:26 AM
I realize they only skimmed all the tweets.  But I did note in TFA that none of them suggested an actual Ghanaian monument or icon as an alternative.

You know, it's really not *that* hard to not offend.

2014-06-17 11:55:09 AM
Delta simply needs to give some giraffes to Ghana, who apparently suffers from giraffe-envy (ugly, but it can happen).

Problem solved.

Yeah, did any of these sensitive pieces of shiat stop to think that the giraffe is sticking it's tongue out? They lost, it's just a funny image to post. People who have ACTUALLY suffered from racism are probably more offended at the poeple who are getting their racism fainting couches out.

Thanks to Fark I learned that posting a picture of our first lady is also racist.

Oh no, Bluto. We're afraid to post a pic of a giraffe.

Well from now on, you can kiss my ass.

It allows you to have up to a 51 lbs for a lugguge item before having to pay for an overweight item.

Not all ignorance has a racist theme to it. Whoever handles social media coordinating for Delta just didn't research Ghana wildlife. BFD.

Racist? No. Of course not.

Ignorant of geography? Yep.

Most ignorant and racist thing this week "Delta: We're sorry for our choice of photo in our previous tweet. Best of luck to all teams."

Okay, based on this tweet I'm going to conclude that racism is dead.

Should have gone with something that represents Ghana:

But that requires doing actual research and stuff and Honey Boo Boo is on and can't I just post a giraffe. Ghana is in Africa and Africa has at least one giraffe, right?

machoprogrammer: Do people intentionally look for ways to be offended?

Nope. But "people" go out of their way to act like what they didn't do anything to offend and that they have no idea why. It's as if expecting people to accept whatever bone "people" chose to throw them is perfectly acceptable. After all, they're only brown people from Africa. Who cares about their damned country anyway?

It's weird. Ghana seems pretty damned poor, but everyone I've ever met from Ghana (yes, I've met many people from Ghana, lots of immigrants here) are quite well off, except for one guy who works at a parking garage.

Airlines are companies and companies are people so I guess Delta is racist and also 'challenged' on the subject of geography.

Never blame malice when you can blame incompetence.  Dumb, lazy Twitter guy thinks Ghana=Africa=giraffes.  The fact that there are more giraffes in Chicago than Ghana never occurred to him.  He probably has a mercator map and thinks Africa is smaller than Greenland.

Leave dumb people alone.

2014-06-17 12:11:26 PM
let me spell it out for the confused.  The idea is that Ghana was being equated with "Africa," and then the giraffe was considered something for which Africa was known - just as the Statue of Liberty is something for which the US is known.

The problem is that Ghana != Africa - equating them means you consider it all silliness and that Africans are all just one culture/country.  It would be extremely similar if someone was using a picture of the Statue of Liberty for a first-world white country like Italy or such, based on a racist idea that all white people are the same.

There, spelled out does it make more sense why in fact this was very racist?

2014-06-17 12:11:39 PM
I don't think it's as offensive as those limey announcers repeatedly referring to the Ghanaese team as "the Africans."
