Awesome game. I became a fan in '93 when they went to the finals and lost. Glad to see them win it and win it at home, on Friday the 13th, during a full moon.

His point is that the Mayor and the Kings should have been patrolling a beat obviously.

My point is that people shouldn't be wasting ink on a stupid word when there are REAL problems to discuss.

so, those people wouldn't have been murdered in LA that day if the game hadn't been played?  If the parade hadn't been held?  I'm not following.

No, no, no Garcetti .. the two rules of politics is " .. never be caught with a live boy or a dead hooker .."

I can guess why you changed the aphorism ..

I don't care that the mayor used a "naughty word."  The stupid people media should focus on important things (yes, like the victories in sport) instead of stupid things like "naughty words."

I agree with you. Our problem is we live in a world where the police in larger cities are no longer expected to keep everyone safe as much as being a way for the city to generate revenue.

I live in the Dallas suburbs. A couple of years ago a buddy called me asking for bail money because he just got a DWI and his wife was too drunk to be trusted (the cop told her to walk and they would tow the truck. She was smart enough to call people still at the party who drove up, got her and his truck and left).

My buddy rarely drinks if his wife is going to be drinking. They were leaving a birthday party for one of her college friends at a restaurant in downtown Dallas. He said he had 3 beer in a little over 4 hours at the restaurant.

The cop claimed he turned on a red light, then gave him a field sobriety test but no breathalizer. When he told his lawyer about the DWI, his lawyer asked what intersection. Based only on the cross street, the lawyer knew which officer pulled him over. Said that is his job, busting people for DWI, Thursday through Sunday nights.

Long story slightly shorter, After $12K in lawyer fees and 2 years later, the city of Dallas dropped the charges. Seems they couldn't find the picture from the red light camera showing he ran the light, never mailed him a ticket for running said light or had the dash cam video showing my buddy failing the test. His lawyer's firm has an almost 70% success rate on getting people out of false DWI and said Dallas rolls the dice on people not being able to afford a decent lawyer so they play round up. He said their success rate is based mainly on them requesting evidence. The city usually stalls and postpones court dates. If you can still afford your lawyer, they will eventually drop the charges.

Point I'm trying to make, I'm 100% positive there was some sort of violent crime going on, it's the weekend in Dallas, yet they have a large portion of their officers looking to write tickets, tow cars and and pop people for DWI no matter if they are actually impaired or not.

Defending crime doesn't create revenue therefore isn't a priority. In the case of the parade, giving tickets/towing cars belonging to the tax payers who attended this event does create revenue therefore you can bet there were police officers everywhere.

Oh come it's funny when the Veep says something like that and not when the Mayor of LA says it?

I think it's a Big Farking Shame.

As near as I could tell, he was criticizing the media, not the mayor or the police.
BTW, the police that hand out parking tickets and tow cars are traffic cops, not full policemen.  They wouldn't be out busting crimes even if they weren't at the parade.  Actual police officers were almost certainly NOT working the parade.

Your comment sounded like the tired old "LA people don't even care about hockey" drivel, and I wouldn't hit him anyway.

Nah, it's pretty accurate. The playoff TV ratings for the Kings in LA were also a joke.
