Great effort on that header by Fellaini, but an even better save by the keeper.

Lukaku (Chelsea/Everton)
Hazard (Chelsea)

Kompany (Man City)
Vertonghen (Spuds)
Dembele (Spuds)

Mirallas (Everton)

Lost Thought 00: HaywoodJablonski: Gosling: HaywoodJablonski: Me. Belgium ( theoretically) doesn't suck

Doesn't suck? That's one thing. Can stand up to Germany/Portugal/US in a knockout situation? Much dicier proposal.

Belgium would easily go toe-to-toe with the US and Portugal. Germany is another issue.

What was the result from the Belgium-US friendly they played on the opening day of the Cup?

What's the key word in your question which implies it has no place in the argument?

Hint: FRIENDLY

No doubt they're stacked. The scariest part is how deep they are when you go past the starting 11. Chadli was useless today but, hey, we have Dries Mertens who's ridiculously awesome in his own right sitting right here...how about you go in?

Yeah I know some Mexicans might be feeling confident about this game, but those past games were on neutral ground.  This one's in Brazil; Mexico's going to feel like they're in Columbus again.

We're not against holding it in our country.  We're against being told private money would be use to get rid for the games, then once we won the bid, to have 11 billion dollars of taxpayer money diverted to building the infrastructure necessary to hold the games while public services such as hospitals, schools, and so on are closing left and right, public workers aren't getting paid, basic infrastructure is crumbling, and so on.

I know, I know. It's small, small, tiny, miniscule compensation and I really hope you guys are able to make some sort of headway. There was a Salon article I saw a few days back saying some of you guys were actually hoping Brazil crashed out stupidly early just so the rest of the country would get pissed off enough to do something. I mean, it worked out for Seoul back in the 80's.

Of course, this is basically what all sports hosts eventually go through. Politicians regardless of nation talk about all the jobs that get created and all the infrastructure and money it'll bring in and all that stuff, and then it turns out all the jobs are to build the stadium and a lot of hosts break even at best. In practice, when you opt to host an event like this, the real way to look at it is that you're putting on a big party for the duration of the event. That's what hosts ultimately tend to get out of it. A party. A couple weeks of funtimes. Not what you were hoping to hear, I bet, but there you go.
