Got my banker chip on Belgium putting in a strong performance against Algeria today. The intriguing matchup for me is Brazil/Mexico. Both teams can run in the Brazilian steam baths for a long time.

Have the US fans gone back to not caring about futbol yet?

After Brazil's crap in the opener and Mexico being Mexico, I hope both teams lose, but it should hopefully be an entertaining match.

I don't think Algeria has a chance against Belgium, but I hope Belgium crushes them, this team has had a lot of hype, let's see what they can do.

Man it's been so long since I added someone to my "gray 1" nearly illegible favorite's list.

Anyway, schedules and standings

I think I'll prefer a Mexico win over a Brazilian one. Hoping Mexico and Croatia can get out of the group.

Haven't fact-checked, but interesting if true

Thomas Muller has more World cup goals than Messi , Ronaldo , Rooney and Ibrahimovic combined at only 24 years old.

I'd definitely like to see Croatia advance. I also wouldn't mind seeing Mexico upset the hosts today. A lot of good teams look beatable by a determined underdog in this WC. The only ones that have lived up to the hype so far are Germany.

Yeah, there has been some really strong looking teams and some great underdogs, love the upsets and near upsets. Netherlands and Germany have both made me a happy fan, I'm still hoping Germany doesn't tumble again and lose steam like they have been in every world cup recently, but if they do, I'm hoping the Netherlands keeps chugging along. Such a shame to see them lose the last final.

Germany's going to beat everyone 4-1, inexplicably lose in the semifinals, and then win the consolation game 4-1.

It's what they do.

Listening to Men in Blazers.....they referenced the hair farm on Rooney's neck that gets moved to the top of his head. I snorted iced tea on my keyboard.

2014-06-17 11:12:32 AM
Lukaku gets 2, Witsel gets 1 and Algeria gets curb stomped.

Brazil puts 4 by Mexico and El Tri crumbles like a 2 year that just got their favorite toy taken away. It won't matter who scores for Brazil because Mexico won't be able to stop any of them.

2014-06-17 11:14:12 AM
Remember, folks. The only reason Mexico is on the competition is because the US allowed it

I don't think any games today are going to be good. Brazil and Belgium will win in routs, while Russia-Korea will rival the Iranian game in unwatchability

Any way to stream this?

Men in Blazers: Rooney would have been less embarrassed if he just soiled himself instead of shanking that corner.

/Seriously I worry Rooney is going to kill these guys.

ESPNWatch app if you have an account with one of the providers, like Xfinity, et al. Or Univision, which is a much more entertaining broadcast, even if you don't speak the language.

Belgium, Brazil, and South Korea.  I doubt I'll be anywhere close on the scores for my predictor.  I'm still not upset about insuring the US game yesterday.

Univision even has Hristo Stoichkov doing color commentary for matches. Stoichkov was the Bulgarian star and Golden Boot winner at USA '94...not sure where he learned Spanish

Fun fact: Mark Geiger, the American ref, will be the first ref of the Cup called upon to work a second match as, on the back of the Colombia/Greece game, he's been assigned to Spain/Chile.

Today's refs:
Belgium/Algeria: Marco Rodriguez, Mexico
Russia/South Korea: Nestor Pitana, Argentina
Brazil/Mexico: Cuneyt Cakir, Turkey

'(droningly) yes, Adriana Lima.'

the ESPN mersh with Bradley mocking the "hold hands with the kids" thing they do -- if you haven't seen it, it is him walking around ESPN headquarters making copies, getting coffee, talking to ESPN talent, while he's in full uniform with the little kid in uniform, and they're holding hands -- i thought a fuuny thing to would be to show him taking a piss while holding the kid's hand.  you could do it in a non-offensive way, too.  just have shot A of them walking into the bathroom, then cut to a tight shot of them holding hands, and then cut to them washing their hands.

you don't *have* to actually have the kid in the shot.  you just suggest that while Bradley's pissing, he's holding the kid's hand with his non-dick hand.

74 degrees in Belo Horizonte. Perfect conditions.

Remember it's winter in the Southern Hemisphere. It's either actually quite chilly for them, or they're close enough to the equator where seasons aren't really a thing.
