It's nice that they are properly zealous.  You hear so much about people being over-zealous these days that it's refreshing to see some moderation for a change.

I think that's actually a French mispronunciation of "jealous".

There are old mushroom pickers and bold mushroom pickers, but there are no old, bold mushroom pickers.

Another thing that needs further study: Mushrooms suck up chemicals from whatever they grow on, so often the interesting stuff about them comes from the wood/roots/bark/dirt they're growing from. Triterpenoids for an example I remember being produced by plants in huge amounts - it's what makes a lot of plants smell/taste/medicinal like they are.

I don't know if mushrooms make their own triterpenoids, but it's entirely possible that whatever this Chinese university found in these shrooms is only in those particular ones that grow right there.

We need more Fark articles that include complex organic molecular structures.  Man o man that's a sexy triterpenoid I'm getting liver toxicity just looking at it.  I'd love to see the proton NMR of that baby.

You'd think this would be the kind of thing that would only happen once or twice at most. If people are eating an "edible" mushroom, and then dying, that should be a tip-off that perhaps the mushroom is not quite so "edible" as previously thought and it should be reevaluated. But not 12 or 13 more times.

This.  The article says "Both  T.equestre and  T. terreum are part of a family of wild mushrooms that were thought to be edible," and it certainly sounds like they were able to eat them.

Scientists have also discovered that many 'muricans are in the Mushroom Club (keep 'em in the dark and feed 'em lots of sh*t), and hence, keep voting Republican even though the GOP represents only big business and wealthy interests.  Scientists report that FOX News, and other right wing propaganda "news" makers are largely responsible for this.

So "edible" and "survivable" don't mean the same thing?
