(YouTube)   The fight between the Hound and Brienne made this scene from the Mr. Show movie "Run Ronnie Run" relevant again. (even the title is Super Not safe for work)   (youtube.com) divider line 10

It was a really good fight. I liked the subtle nod in the fight when the Hound tried to get his fingers into Brienne's eyes - a nice mirror to what his brother did just two weeks ago.

It certainly didn't go as well for the Hound as the song suggests.

I didn't see him trying to get his fingers into her eyes...
I saw that as lining her head up and getting a good grip on it for a neck break.
But she countered, however!
Great, great fight...one of the best screen fights I've seen in a long time...right up there with The Captain vs. Dan Dority from Deadwood...
Just brutal, fighting, literally, bare-handed (mostly) for their lives.
As they say, kicking, scratching, punching, biting...in the dirt till the death.
Poor Brienne...poor Hound...I wanted better for them than that, despite how awesome it was!

Yes, they are. The Mountain is the one who burned the Hound's face. Has this been confusing to other show watchers? I guess I never paid attention to how well they established this, since I knew it already.

Not how I wanted to see the Hound or Brienne's story go.  I certainly had higher hope for his storyline after The Mountain prevailed.  I was really hoping for a brotherly reunion somewhere down the line, with a hopefully 'just' ending.  But it did set up a personally pivotal moment later, so I can forgive (again) for not getting a 'just' outcome.

That personal moment was a correct 'prediction' (hopes really) from season 2 that so far actually happened with this season finale.  As someone who never read the books I'm kind of happy that I guessed correctly.

/intentional vaguery to avoid spoiling

It was established a few times since season 1 but always in brief exchanges or clouded language like not letting you know The Mountain's name til much later.  For you to know just from watching the show would require second viewings.  I never read the books but I knew because I watched each season twice.  They were good about not making it painfully obvious.

It was established quite well during the jousting tournament during season 1. I don't think it was mentioned much after that though, so if someone missed the 5 minutes of the jousting tournament where they bring that up or wasn't paying attention, that could come up as a bit of a surprise.

I know there were a few references to how the hound got his face burnt throughout the few seasons.

Thanks! I may need to read the books anyway, because I can't wait for another season.

Not as relevant as this classic scene, I'm afraid.
