lindalouwho: rvesco: lindalouwho: For a tv show, trickster subby - it doesn't even say they'll play together.

That"s ok though, I'll enjoy watching it. Lord knows I wouldn't pay the insane price for tix if they toured.

I would.

And that's fine. I have 45 years of concert-going under my belt and saw them (and many others) back when prices were sane, even cheap. I'm guessing you're younger.

Shelled out over 350 each for McCartney and Eagles in the last year and a half, both were phenomenal shows, no regrets. McCartney, especially, I still cannot get over how good he was, but I still have to work to not get pissed at how much these acts are gouging people.

xtalman: Chester Thompson been playing with them for so long he could do the drumming if Phil wasn't up to it.

Also, Phil's son Simon is a solid drummer and heaven knows he's got great access to the source material.

Bill Bruford's retired, if that's what anybody was thinking.

mhd: One being that nobody else understood WTF "The Lamia" is all about.

And that was one reason it took me several years to re-visit Genesis after being foolish enough to buy "Lamb" first as my intro into the Gabriel era.  That album was just too damn weird.

Thank goodness I did, since I would have missed "Trespass" and "Selling England by the Pound".  Now I have every album up to the 1983 one.

Gulper Eel: Long as you don't mention the guitar part on "Pigeons" to Steve.

Got me there.  What was it, one or two notes?

xtalman: Didn't they do some charity shows together a number of years back in order to pay off some of Peters debts? They were one offs with Peter, Tony, Mike and Phil IIRC.

You're thinking of the 1982 concert, "Six of the Best" that I think saved WOMAD (not sure of that?) from going under.

doofusgumby: with great power comes great insanity: "Reunite" means they're going to be sitting in a room together.

And this may be niggling, but Hackett and Collins are not "original members".

Not niggling at all. Pre phil collins: Genesis. Post phil collins: the phil collins band featuring some guys who used to play for Genesis.

Fark that. Wind and Wuthering is their best album.

One note. "Pigeons" is their novelty song, I guess. Either that or "Who Dunnit".

Hard to pick a best, but it's good.  I actually bought that used on vinyl in the mid 90s.. still haven't bought a digital copy for more modern devices, though.

"A Trick of the Tail" is more important to their career, though. The assumption was that the band would be nothing without Peter. The first few seconds of "Dance on a Volcano" put all that to rest.

And the hits Genesis had in the 80's? You might be surprised to know the riff that resulted in "Invisible Touch" is Tony Banks' doing.

From interviews and such I always got the impression that Banks was the real leader of the band, i.e. if Tony didn't like it it probably was not going to happen,
