I'm not sure ticking off every single regional power while also managing to freak out Europe and America is really that sound of a long-term strategy.

When you make Al Qaeda think you are too extreme and you manage to get Iran and the US on the same page you might have gone a little too far.

Blurb on TV last night made me stop and think, when released let the leader of ISIS his words were "See you in New York". When they take over these towns they loot the banks, and they figured about four hundred million. With that kind of backing / cash it wouldn't be anything they couldn't accomplish, including going to New York.
Very scary.

Egyptian, but otherwise, good point. And since Egypt is much closer to them culturally and historically than Greece is (being fellow Muslims and all these days), how could they not know that?

See also my previous posts in this thread. They're relevant.

That is the problem right there.

This area of the world is just a bunch of barbarian tribes, and go about their business with each other as such. You will never get them to act as a unified country. That idea is a concept above their comprehension.

The mission was a no bid oil contract for the company his vice president left 6 months before entering office. Mission Accomplished.

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Who gives a shiat. It's their country, let them handle it.

That's just it: it's not their country. To rehash an out-of-context quote that became a GOP talking point and even a dedicated day at the RNC itself, they didn't build that. Europe did.

After WWI and the fall of the Ottoman Empire, European powers took it upon themselves to draw new borders and carve out new nations where the Empire used to be, without regard to the people who'd have to live with those borders. In so doing, they split up cultures and grouped others together who had long histories of mutual hatred.

Iraq shouldn't even exist. It's a fictional nation, imposed from outside, just as Yugoslavia was (and see how that turned out?). See also Rwanda and much of the rest of sub-Saharan Africa.

That's just insulting you know.  They understand what countries are, and how they function, its just they don't want to be in the same county as groups they historically hate, and only are together because outsiders drew the maps that way.  Many fo the nations woudl be better off fractures more cleanly along the lines of who actually lives where and how.

Dear Iraq,

I'm tired of your shiat.  I hope your people get their shiat together in time.  I also hope that the cover has been removed from the switch if you don't.  You could do it.  Maliki is killing you.  Take him away.  I don't care what you do with him.  Do what you have to with Iran but for fark's sake DO SOMETHING.  shiites, your way of life is threatened.  Sunnis, what you think of as your way of life?  That will go away if you let ISIS continue.  Me? I'm going to go get drunk now because what you've been doing to yourself inspires and practically demands it.

In the meantime, fark you.

The first thing we should have done after giving Saddam the boot should have been to turn Iraq into a loose confederacy.  Sunni Kurds get the north, Sunni Arabs get the west, Shia Arabs get the south.  If the Sunni Arabs wanted to break away to merge with Syria or form an independent state, more power to them.

Yeah, such a move would have pissed off the Turks and the Iranians, who fear Kurdish separatist movements, but it is better than what's going on in Iraq right now.

All this because a few places have a "Jesus slept here 2000 years ago" sign in the window... just let them and their ancient fairy tale religions die off...
