I lost my virginity to the J Geils Band.  Pretty sure they didn't make the list.

And considering how often they made the list, I'm going to guess that the author of the article got a lot of action in the summer of '72.

Music lost its virginity to me.  Because I've been alive forever, and I wrote the very first song......

They pick that Beach Boys song? I was expecting Fun, Fun, Fun or Surfin' USA. Also, the "Boys of Summer" by teh Eagles did not make the cut? This list FAILs without that one.

I still remember the summer song that was playing the day I lost my virginity to the one and only Heather Markowski. She was fourteen years old and the prettiest girl in the entire eighth grade. We shared some wine coolers out on the train tracks and I was *so* nervous, but when I finally made my fumbling, clumsy move she already knew what I had in mind, and she didn't even care that I lasted about ten seconds.

I'll remember so much about that night, but I'll ALWAYS remember that summer song: "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke.

/apologies to Steve Martin

Boys of Summer was a Don Henley solo song.

/I kind of like the Ataris version better. Too much synth on Henley's version for my tastes.

Not a huge fan a Van Hagar, but Summer Nights is a great summertime song.  Also, came to biatch that Summer in the City didn't make the list, but surprisingly it did.  Great song.  Summer Breeze is also great.

Not that either of them are great songs but I was really surprised that, Summer of '69 and Night Moves were not on the list.  They seem to be pretty standard summer radio fare.

Also, there was no music when I lost mine, a movie starring Charlton Heston was playing in the background. Don't remember what it was but it was obscure.

It was a live album from the 70s. I wasn't paying much attention to the music.

"The Boys of Summer" is unambiguously a post-summer song.

In the very first lines, Henley notes that "ain't nobody on the road / ain't nobody on the beach" -- that is, the two major activities of summer, road trips and going to the beach, have concluded. If there's any doubt about that, he makes clear that there's "a feeling in the air / summer's out of reach." In other words, summer's over.

The rest of the song is him reminiscing about his now-departed fling from the summer (he can recall her "brown skin shining in the [summer] sun"), and how his love for her is "still . . . strong" even though "the boys of summer have gone." The verb tenses in the chorus are a little bit of a mess, but there's no doubt that the song is sung from a perspective that "summer," be it literal or metaphorical, has passed.

Also, list fails without The Cars' "Magic": "Summer / it turns me upside down / summer, summer, summer / it's like a merry-go-round." Not to mention, it was ubiquitous on the radio in summer '84 and '85.

I had to check your profile, because you were the only other one to say "Dark Side of the Moon" and I had to make sure that you weren't a female that grew up in Waukesha, Wisconsin.  Wouldn't that have been a coincidence?
