But for many people, their only experience with rosé is white zinfandel. No wonder they don't like it.

FTFY and truth in wine lore. There is a reason that White Zinfadel sells as much as it does.....people like it a lot for starters and evolve their taste from there.

This article comes out every summer. Look, drink it if you like it, I don't care if you like Miller Light or Steel Reserve or Thelonius Monk or Dom Perignon. Fark that, alcohol is here to help us enjoy life.

Rose ain't all bad. It's basically the light beer of the wine world, but on a blistering hot day it's hard to argue against, and some people love the flavor.

When you get down to that level, you're entering the realm of malt wine, so it's no surprise it's trash.

There are plenty of wineries that make legitimate partially-skinned Rose, they're just not sold for $2.99 per magnum. They're still usually the cheapest on the menu at $10-15 a bottle, and I wouldn't be surprised if some were leftovers, but there's no shame in using your full harvest.

"It's cool to sit in your garden and have a perfect bottle of pink to start your meal," Kacher said. And, he added, it's a great substitute for beer.

Just like a poached cod filet is a great substitute for a grilled rib eye.

A wife of somebody I knew loved to drink rose in the summer, and she was a total coont. So I am a bit biased against it.

I have yet to meet a wine I have not enjoyed: sauvignon, bourdeaux, chardonnay, moscato (a particular favorite of mine), rice, Boone's Farm...

CSB: In college, a few friends and I decided wed get some liquor and drink. I bought myself a nice bottle of rose, and about half an hour into drinking someone mentioned the headlights of a friend we called "Tits McGee." I dropped my wine, broke the bottle all over the floor, and that story is still being told as hilarious.

If you buy them where the wines on the shelf next to them are Night Train, Thunderbird, MD 20/20 and spumante farkin flavored "malt beverage," yes, they are.  DNRTFA right?

The particular Tavel in the photo above is at 14.5%. You could have veal chops nicely paired with it. Or hot dogs... Just be sure to get very good hot dogs. Preferably grilled over a fire on a beach late in the evening. Any time of day in the mountains.

Nasty CSB: I used to work at CVS, which sells their own wine. My friend and I would mix together the red and white, chill lightly, and enjoy as a 'blush' wine. It really wasn't so bad. Mild, fruity but not too tart, good stuff for $3.33 a bottle.

Ah.  When I think of spirits I think of things like bourbon and gin.  Nothing wrong with the girly stuff.  I like to mix butterscotch schnapps with milk, so I certainly can't talk.  Whatever you like you drink, man.

My mother--who knows I like a drink every now and again--bought me a couple of those mini-bottles of moscato from CVS when they were a buck each. Not terrible. And I think there's one still in my bedroom somewhere.

French wine shops are full of rosé at this time of year.  So are the wineries, so are the supermarkets.  Our local supermarket sets-up a whole section for them.

But what do the French know about wine?

/The wife and I split a pichet of rosé du sud last night at dinner.  Very subtle, not sweet at all.
