we are in a fight to the death with the elite of the world. the end result of capitalism is that they have all the money, and the environment is totally used up,and unfit for human habitation. To be in the top 1% you have to be totally psychotic, and detached from reality.

it's time to fight, or die.

I just like how the word "think" is on the second line. At first glance I saw, "Poorer than you" and immediately thought of that Mickey Avalon song "My Dick".

He's proposed a raise in the minimum wage, higher taxes on the upper brackets, a public option for health care, and numerous other things that would have helped the poor and middle classes of America recover from decades of 'supply-side' bullshiat. Republicans torpedoed or watered down every last one of them.

He's not perfect, but if his propositions had been implemented, there is little doubt that the middle class would be better off. But hey, the already-wealthy are wealthier than ever, so it should be trickling down any second now!

How exactly does raising the minimum wage or higher taxes on the rich help the middle class?  That's who we're talking about, remember?

And Obamacare wasn't about helping the middle class, either--by and large, the middle class had healthcare and liked it.

Very much so. 1% is about 250K a year. I'm in my mid 20s and the wealthiest family in town clears that by about double (own a construction company that specializes in agriculture buildings). They give so much to charity and their name is on all kinds of community grants and foundations.

They're also 1st generation millionaires, so that probably has something to do with it.

If the poor people are spending more money on things they aren't used to, eg lawyers, dentists, doctors, etc, the middle class will make more money. If we tax the rich more, we don't have to tax the middle class so much.

You sound dense, are you just playing dumb?

It wouldn't necessarily have helped the EXISTING middle class. It would have helped more poor people BECOME middle class. And higher taxes on the rich means that money goes back into the economy, rather than sitting uselessly in offshore bank accounts.

In a healthy economy, money needs to circulate. If that money is in the hands of the poor or middle class people, they're more likely to spend it, rather than shove it in an account somewhere.

2014-06-15 10:14:17 PM
If it makes you feel any better, most of wealth of the 1% is in stocks and bonds. Assets where the valuation has been just so much good will and popular opinion for the longest time. Close study of most stock valuations will make you shake your head in a "where do they get that number" sort of way. In the long run all paper assets go to zero.

So, things will shift, swans will be black, and the 1% a century from now will be a different batch of assholes. Warren Buffet's son will not replace him. Most of that class doesn't maintain the values that built value through the generations, scions do not run the firms.
