I know that intersection. It's annoying regardless of anyone being there. That is to say that you could be passing through there with nobody else on the road and feel annoyed by it. Best stop by the Banshee for some grub.

And here for no reason is Captain Sensible with his bicycle (Damned if you do)

Rodriguez said that he was behind him and when Nguyen said the light was red, he made a motion like he wanted to fight, and that's when he punched the victim.

So, you're behind him in your car, and the guy is in front of you on his bike, and he makes a motion like he wants to fight. So you oblige him by getting out of your vehicle and punching him.

...and that's your defense?

*facepalm*

rzrwiresunrise: Have we cued the farktards that hope bicyclists get smeared on the road?

Ugh! No way. It'd make the road slippery for all the other cars. You're supposed to hit them and send them flying onto the shoulder out of the way of traffic.

Don't know about there, but here it is legal to make a right turn on a red light after stopping.  Numerous times I've been stuck trying to turn because people on bikes won't move over to give me room to make the turn.  It's annoying, but not "punch the guy in the face" annoying.

It was a red arrow sign. Just like in right turn on red states some intersections will have a no turn on red sign.

I disagree, especially in this case, where it sounds like the guy had to be beaten before he was on the sidewalk, where he belonged.

I'm an avid cyclist (at least I was until I had prostate cancer surgery 3 months ago - yay!) and I follow the rules of the road. I've found that just confuses drivers. For example, I'm at a stop sign on a country road waiting for cross traffic to pass (55 mph speed limit by the way) and a lady stops and tries to wave me across. i was, WTF? I have the stop sign and you're on a through road.

Sign at crossing for hike/bike trail near here: Traffic Does Not Stop...but the signs are only visible to the trail, not the road, so sometimes cars stop.  They are trying to be nice, but damn it's awkward.

Bonus: when a car stops, since drivers don't really want to hold up traffic, it's usually when there is not another car visible going either way.  Everybody would have already crossed behind the car if it had just driven through.

Just today I had to deal with yet another idiot driver.  Riding my bike out of Prospect Park in Brooklyn, over to my place, all along a narrow road with a bike lane.  I got to a light stopped, then once the light turned green, idiot SUV driver accelerated as hard as possible to pass me, then once past, slowed down and started looking for parking spots.  And crossing onto the bike lane all the time while going slow and trying to pull into spots that were driveways or hydrants.  Then at the corner I would get ahead, stop, light would turn green, and she would accelerate full blast once again and so on.  This went on for about 8 blocks.  Once I had enough at the next light, I got out of my bike, pulled off my phone and was getting ready to start videoing, when she accelerated past the red light and out to the side street.

Yeah, overly polite drivers are the most common annoyance when I'm cycling, too. It seems people have become much more careful in the past ten years. And mostly I stick to bike-friendly routes.

I don't get it... are you saying it is legal to overtake another vehicle stopped at a red light as long as you are making a right turn?

They don't know how driving laws work, apparently.

Key factoids:

-Cyclist in question probably wasn't turning right.
-Cyclists are expressly supposed to ride and wait (at lights) in the MIDDLE of the lane, so that people won't be tempted to "just slip on past" both illegally splitting the lane and coming dangerously close to hitting the cyclist, cars in the other lane, or both.
-Cyclists are not supposed to ride on the sidewalk and can be arrested for doing so.  No of course it doesn't stop them, doesn't make it legal or correct for you to expect it either.

Perfectly good pitbulls mauling children thread a few down.

I always see drivers who tend to crawl and observe regardless of cyclists active motions, they read the road then proceed to wait for a proper signal, and that tends to force me to go another direction or refuse intersection traversals so they lock back into an actual traffic pattern and not some sort of false courtesy that all too often I see force an early or non-logically-timed choice in non-vehicular entities.

Basically people pull up and pretend you're an officer playing as a crossing guard, waiting for you to direct traffic with only the motion you gesture towards.

After taking a look at the video, it looks like a right-turn only lane that guy was parked in. Secondly, that road is too busy for cyclists. I was initially joking, but after review, were I riding my bike there for some ungodly reason, you bet I'd be on the sidewalk. It's not safe to ride bikes on busy roads like that.

As both a cyclist and motorist, I see that confusion all the time here.  On the SW Commuter path there is one particular spot that I'm surprised nobody has been killed yet.  4 lane road, 2 each direction, 35mph, so traffic is typically moving 40+.  Stop signs for the path.  Many good opportunities without waiting more than 15 seconds to cross because of the way lights are timed up and down the street.

Then you see some bluehair stopping in the middle of traffic, waving a kid on a bike across.  The kid starts, and another car comes zipping around in the other lane and nearly hits the kid as they are coming out from in front of the stopped car.  I always wave them on right back when they do that.  We have the stop sign for a reason, and it's for everyone's safety.

Then there's the almost rear-ending that typically happens when someone sees you sitting there and hits the brakes suddenly.

It's not like people randomly stopping on through streets for a side-streeter is something only cyclists see. I've had it happen more being in my car than on my bike! Of course in California politeness is a rare occurrence in general; at least half the time it's an out-of-state plate.

Nearly every day I wonder what the hell signs people are hallucinating around them.
