Understandable, you wouldn't want to be associated with Western PA if you didn't have to either.

I just got back from spending a week in Delaware.

It was absolutely amazing. Driving over the state line from Philidelphia, you go from some of the nastiest lower class suburban sprawl I have seen, to the most picturesque New England beauty you can imagine. From miles upon miles of geographies of nowhere, to beautiful Main Street towns and cities. We drove the length of the state as well, venturing into Slower Delaware, which was just as beautiful.

I highly recommend it, although I shudder to think what real estate prices must be like, to keep out the riffraff pushing in on Delaware from all sides.

DE is like PA's liquor cabinet

Delaware has only 3 counties but when you drive the length of it, it feels like it takes forever.

There's a lighthouse in Delaware that has a marker showing the boundry. I can't remember the name though.

Most older natives of Delaware remember when Joe Biden as the lifeguard at the pool.

Pennsylvania is so deep in a budget hole now the only way we can get out is to attack and conquer Delaware. We'd get all the credit card companies, beachfront property, a state not so aggressively rectangular.

Plus, we have the element of surprise!

Oh...wait...

You remember that documentary with that Veep girl. There's a good reason Joe can't drive beyond the White House grounds.

the yoke of tyranny that is Pennsylvania

You laugh subby, but have you ever tried to buy beer, booze, and mixers for a party in PA? Takes about all day.

I'd say Delaware got it right.

And the above is why.

Mr. Coffee Nerves: Pennsylvania is so deep in a budget hole now...

W-why?

You should probably talk to your state legislators about the tax rates for oil and gas wells. I hear there's a big boom in Pennsylvania these days for 'unconventional' (fracking) wells, and it's making the various companies mountains of dough.

It's true, we have horrible liquor laws, but no one acts like it's a dry state or anything. No shortage of drinking here.

Ah, I remember the Separation Day Festivites of my youth in Delaware.

We'd light effigies of William Penn in every field.  Then we'd sacrifice a thousand chickens so that we might have another year of freedom from our ancient oppressors.  All the while chanting "FIRST! FIRST! FIRST"

I tried to call the governor to tell him that but his secretary said "Some gentlemen from Chesapeake Energy and Range Resources are currently making the governor airtight while he weeps in gratitude."

The Rendell administration let Verizon, Comcast, Air Products and Heinz run a train on him willingly.

The boundary is actually marked from the New Castle County Courthouse, although over time it's been fudged a bit.

Please, let's stop this blather about this nonexistent state, Delaware.  You are all referring to the renegade province of Delaware.

Delaware's state government is corporatocracy in action.  From the usury and corporate governance laws, to the DE Court of Chancery and the turnpike, DE is a parasitic state.  The Liechtenstein of North America.

If Delaware had really won we'd all be speaking Swedish. And not just while shopping at IKEA.

We also own up to the high water line on the Jersey side of the river... so we've got that going for us
