As appalling as this story is, I wonder if something else happened and they were asked to leave for another reason. Poor girl either way. She is a cutie.

2014-06-15 11:15:40 AM
I'm glad they put that "allegedly" 'in there, because well, I don't know if I believe this. She doesn't even look that scary, unless they left her eyepatch off. Maybe that's really gross.

Might it have something to do with Victoria's Victories Facebook page, which has been documenting the little girl's recovery? And nobody they can sue here either, since it was grandpa's dogs that did it.

I hear many lawyers, Kemosabe... running like the wind!

2014-06-15 12:33:02 PM
I am throwing my name onto the "this didn't happen" board also.  Most people passing by in a restaurant  wouldn't even notice her "disfigurement" and those that did wouldn't be so scared they couldn't move on with their lives and eat their chicken.

I would be very surprised if this turned out to be true.  What business in its right farking mind would turn away a injured little girl because she had a few scars?  It is just nonsensical as even the most hard-hearted among us have a soft spot for little kids.  More than likely, her mother is just using her daughter's injuries to attention whore.  Also, the article is glossing over the fact that the fact that  the girl's family is wholly to blame for her injuries.

More like there is no guarantee that these were actual "pit bulls" either. The media has about the same track record in identifying medium-sized shorthair breeds as it does handguns and "assault rifles."

Also, what kind of red neck wonder land do these people live in when packs of wild pit bulls just barge into your trailer park trailer and eat little children? This is some serious Trailer Park Boys shiat.

I work in a guest relations office and I don't doubt this story for a minute!

The things people will complain about is mind blowing.

The depths people will go to try and get something free is staggering.

I have no doubt the thought process was "That girl is hard to look at, I lost my appetite, I want my KFC meal for free now"

Not a doubt in my mind

Kids are far less likely to be injured or killed at school than at home.  If the money and attention being put into "school shooter" protection were put into quality school counseling and outreach, then far more kids would be certain to benefit.

People who make a lot of money are the puppeteers that make marionettes move, they don't need to garner popular support to institute change. They simply change what they can or just buy the change they want that makes them more money and opinions by the peasants be damned.

Someone who owns a pit bull also tends to:

1. Buy twenty lottery tickets each week.
2. Have a tattoo on their hands or neck.
3. Pursue futile workman's comp claims.
4. Take photographs of babies holding beer cans.
5. Prominently display an electric guitar in the living room.
6. Sport a shaven head.
7. Invite the parole officer for Thanksgiving dinner.
8. Lift weights in the front garden.
9. Wear t-shirts featuring profanity.
10. Have at least two stepchildren, each with a different surname.

I'm gonna call BS on it, too. I used to manage a KFC when I was in my early 20's. I never turned anyone away or asked them to leave. We had one literally crazy guy that would show up every Monday, Thursday and Sunday, without fail, like clockwork.

He'd order a single piece of chicken, take it to a table and have a conversation with NO ONE! Just talking to an empty chair as if someone were answering (he did a MUCH better job than Clint Eastwood). Then he'd get up and buy a biscuit. Talk some more while eating the biscuit. Come to the counter, buy a small soda, go back to the table and continue the conversation. He'd never buy a meal, he'd buy each piece one at a time and eat them before getting the next piece.

The ONLY time we had a problem was when he told the imaginary person a joke and they didn't get it. So, he had to explain it to them, and they still didn't get it, and he was getting agitated at their inability to understand the humor of his joke. He started raising his voice in agitation, then stormed out of the restaurant. We didn't see him for about 10 days after that.

We had one or two people try to complain that it was creepy, and I'd tell them: He's harmless, ignore him. He honestly didn't bug anyone else unless they paid attention to him, and as far as I was concerned, that was their problem, not his. it wasn't like during a lunch rush or anything, he came in during mid-afternoon when we were slow. A couple of the teenage girls made fun of him at first, but after a while, it just became the norm that this dude would come in and have conversations with imaginary people. He never hurt anyone, and was a paying customer, there was nothing I could do, so I didn't do anything.

The good ole days at Harman-Drever...

I don't believe this story. I don't believe half the shiat I read on the internet. Maybe I'm cynical but I'm inclined to believe they were asked to leave for some reason and then they used this as an excuse.

IF this story is true, it was probably some overzealous employee who felt like this could be a hygiene issue. But even that seems farfetched and stupid.

Funny how it's never a Labrador, or a Beagle, or a German Sheppard, or a Chow, or any number of other breeds and mixes. Nope, it always seems to be a pit bull or a pit bull mix that suddenly turns and viciously attacks without notice or provocation.

2014-06-15 02:14:55 PM
I'm inclined to call BS on this as well, except that when my wife worked for an Arby's, they had a family come in who refused to be served by a cashier that had bad acne scarring...they requested the manager and explained, in front of the cashier, that she was too grotesque. The manager shrugged it off, rang them up, and went back to work. After their meal, the same family asked for the manager again, requesting a refund because they could see the same cashier and it ruined their meal. Manager refused and the family ended up complaining to corporate.

So, do I think a mother would lie about what a restaurant did? Yes.
Do I think some people are just that despicable to say and do such things? Yes.

One of the other students had a glass eye.  A new kid started and had his first time at night patrol duty, so they swiped some ketchup from the kitchen, snuck out, popped out the eye (they had kept it a secret from the newb), laid it on his cheek on some ketchup with more here and there on his face and chest, waited until here was near and made some "gurgling sounds".
He said when the guy heard the "gurgling" he slowed way down and started sneaking, flashlight darting back and forth, everywhere... then comes around the corner to the 'body'.... freezes... then screams like a girl while just standing there.
He had us laughing so farking hard.. this is a cut-down version of what he told..

/also told us if you poured ice water in someone's ear that is asleep, they go after the first person they see when they wake up.. no matter how far away from them they are.. and it worked time after time.

When I was a kid (sometime after the Civil War) my cousin was attacked by a German Shepard and had his face seriously bitten. My uncle was there and killed the dog. My cousin still has the scar.

And all of you doubting this story, just stop it! I want my outrage!!!

HST's Dead Carcass: I think we found a strong case for WHY the family is claiming this has happened. Those medical bills ain't cheap, ya know.

You kind of get that feeling if you look at their Facebook page (linked at Huffpo)

Victoria's family is struggling financially due to the fact that the insurance company is refusing to pay for many of her medicines and anything to do with her feeding tube or formula which is $550 a month. Please continue to pray for Victoria and for God to make a way financially. Thanks for the support!

KFC has reached out for more information thanks to the overwhelming support for Victoria. Thank you for sharing her story and please continue to pray for her and her recovery. She still has several surgeries in her future and will continue to need our love and support.

Several people have asked what they can do outside of money, because Victoria has struggled with her new appearance and she will not be able to have her eye socket repaired anytime soon we are buying decorative eye patches for her. They can be purchased online at etsy.com, ebay.com or amazon.com. they are usually between $10-$15 apiece. If you would like to mail an eye patch please do so to 120 Blessed Drive Harrisville MS 39082
Please remember to purchase for the RIGHT eye. Thanks for all the support for this sweet child.
https://www.etsy.com/market/kids_eye_patch

I found this page from the facebook group, which I found in the article about this lovely girl being asked to leave a restaurant. I just can't believe what I read and wanted to do something to help, even if I don't have much to donate. Victoria is a beautiful little girl, with or without her scars.

Now I'm not saying that this couldn't have happened at KFC, maybe it did, but the family is looking at a lot of surgery for this kid (that's also detailed on the Facebook page.) It's now been several months since the attack, support is probably dropping off now......lots of people in the world to feel sorry for, after all.

I don't know, the KFC story sounds kind of wimpy, and the whole family sounds kind of TOO pious and thankful. Hundreds of "pray for us" and "our hearts lifted in gratitude" and stuff of that nature. Hell, if my grandpa's dog had attacked my kid, I'd be too embarrassed to say much, let alone plaster my kid's painful recovery all over Facebook. Which they are.

cryinoutloud: You kind of get that feeling if you look at their Facebook page (linked at Huffpo)

I actually didn't check the facebook page. I'm also not saying it COULDN'T have happened, and as a customer, I would have been appalled at the store taking these actions personally, but anymore, I can't believe a store or company would pull this considering how litigious our society is these days. Everyone wants a quick buck, but there are those that don't want to work for it.

It's terrible what happened to this girl. This happened to one of my nieces with a Chow Chow (over 200 stitches to put her scalp and face back together, and scarred for life, mentally and physically), so I feel a great overwhelming need for compassion. I have personally never witnessed someone asked to leave a restaurant because of appearance. I've seen them asked to leave for various reasons (including smell at one point), but never something like this.

I guess I'm torn on who to blame and fall back on my belief that humans are inherently greedy and will lie, cheat and steal to get some of what others have. Businesses seem a quick and easy route to this, as they generally go for a quiet settlement to hush the people up. I'm more apt to believe the family has blown this WAY out of proportion and taken it to the extreme, using viral internet instead of word of mouth to get their payday.

Then again, I am jaded.

I saw a fat dude in a wifebeater walking a pitbull puppy the other day. He was honestly trying to look 'hard' but was more soft and doughy than anything. I have far too many stories of my buddy's neighbor and his pitbulls. The dude walks them without a leash, and they are hyper aggressive towards other dogs, including attacking his lab in their yard. He finally pulled out his 9mm when the guy was walking them one day and told him if the dogs comes into his yard again he'll shoot it. The dude now walks them a different route.

The manager shrugged it off, rang them up, and went back to work. After their meal, the same family asked for the manager again, requesting a refund because they could see the same cashier and it ruined their meal. There are bad pit bulls. But, I mean, c'mon, even the most devout anti-pitbull type has to admit that they're made bad by bad owners.

When is the last time you read an article involving someone that wasn't complete trash who owned a pit ball that mauled someone unprovoked? Off the top of my head, I remember 1 incident, and it was a burglar that entered a child's room where the dog was laying beside the bed. That guy got torn the hell up while the family got all the kids out then subdued him before the dog was called off. Vicious beast, indeed.

English Staffordshire Terriers, more commonly known as a Staffie and unofficially classified as a pit bull. If you saw one, you'd know immediately it was a pit bull. If you've seen a blue nose staffie puppy, you'd just melt. It's one of the more tame pits that is catching on around the US because you get the benefits of the pit bull bloodline, just taken down a notch. These dogs are some of the best family dogs you'll find, as long as you pay a little attention to them. You don't even have to send them off to camp to be trained. They may not be as gentle as Labradors and lick every stranger they meet, but Labradors won't protect your family's life with their own if they sense danger or panic.

Psychohazard: More paranoia.  Pit bulls are great dogs.  There are no bad pit bulls, only bad owners.

BS.  There are bad pit bulls, too.  Especially with all of the bad breeding there has been, some dogs are born with behavioral problems.  There are bad owners and good owners.  Even the best owners can have trouble with a behaviorally troubled dog.  To state that dogs are never born bad is the same as saying that people are never born bad, they are just made that way by their environment.  Every dog is an individual with their own personality, and not every dog is a good dog or can ever be a good dog.

buntz: I work in a guest relations office and I don't doubt this story for a minute!

The things people will complain about is mind blowing.

The depths people will go to try and get something free is staggering.

I have no doubt the thought process was "That girl is hard to look at, I lost my appetite, I want my KFC meal for free now"

Not a doubt in my mind

100% this.

I'm sure it was less traumatic than the story makes it out to be, but after working in Disneyland for ten years, I have NO doubt that some asshole decided to go to the manager because "There is an unattractive child in here, my delicate digestion is upset so give me my money back."

Or that the spineless manager immediately went to the mom and said with an apologetic tone in her voice, "Ma'am, I'm sorry, but someone is complaining about your daughter...she's going to have to leave" because the typical corporate response nowadays is to give managers no leeway to say "Grow some balls, nancy and let a child be ugly." No, the default is cave immediately because LAWSUIT!!!

Oh, and if anyone bothered to read TFA, the girl was attacked by her family's own pitbulls who were then shot by her own grandfather. No doubt about either the breed of the dog or the nature of the attack.

Pit bulls like any other dog can be good or bad, but at the pet clinic I work at I've only seen one or two that worried me...chows and sharpeis otoh...no thanks! We even had a pit bull puppy in about a week ago, 130#. If you own a potentially dangerous breed, it's your responsibility to train it and keep it under control. Of course the same can be said about parents...if you have a kid, don't leave your kid around a dog that could bite.

Complete and total bullshiat.  If you want to get some actual facts, consult the CDC

In the 9-year period from 2005 to 2013, pit bulls killed 176 Americans and accounted for 62% of the total recorded deaths (283). Combined, pit bulls and rottweilers accounted for 74% of these deaths.

Idk, but it seems you're arguing apples and oranges here...not all attacks are deadly, and unless it's bad enough may not even get reported at all. I work with dogs daily, and the number of small dog bites way outnumber the big dogs, but being bit in the face by a Chihuahua doesn't make the headlines like being mauled by a pit bull.

You don't know people's base nature...

I've lived with a twisted and disfigured arm all my life. Most strangers just get a little uncomfortable around me when they first spot my disfigured arm, where they instinctively pull back and their whole body becomes visibly stiffer. A few people just completely freak out.

When growing up. I had encounters with other kids' parents who would freak out, convinced that I could infect her children with some horrible disease they imagined I had. When I was a cashier in my college years, there were customers who refused to come into my empty line, or who would immediately back out of the line the moment they saw me.

It does not surprise me at all that some reactionary helicopter parent would freak out at the sight of a disfigured child at the restaurant .

In after the pit bull apologists try to reason us into their logic of saying "omg....not only pit bulls attack people". Funny, but i have never heard of a lab mauling a child, or a beagle, although I'm sure it happens from time to time, one must admit that pit bulls seem to exist to ravage the young and elderly. Much like a lion picks out the weak and young in a herd of animals. But just keep having those pit bulls, we all know its a status symbol for you, and makes you feel more like "a man".

So how long ago did the Kfarkick them out? Because if you look at her pics... her latest it's hard to tell she got bitten. But a few weeks ago her face looked like the KFC should be selling her, not serving her.

Look there's an evolutionary psychology reason why we're scared of freaky-looking people: A mangled face looks a lot like a case of the pox; and even if it's just a wound, the wounds themselves can be infected (realistically, to some degree, always will be until they heal); and lastly people who are in pain are not known for their friendliness and patience, even if they're not contagious.

"She can't help it" is somewhat a valid argument, but it's being taken too far. The dad walking around like an autist, "hey it's not my daughter's fault so I'm sure no one will have a problem" is absurd. She's 3. Responsibility falls to the parents to be her cushion between her and the rest of the world. Figure it out. Think about what will happen when you go places.

This.

Funny how it's never a Labrador, or a Beagle, or a German Sheppard, or a Chow, or any number of other breeds and mixes. Nope, it always seems to be a pit bull or a pit bull mix that suddenly turns and viciously attacks without notice or provocation.

Actually, when you google for the news reports of dog attacks (not websites put up by crazy people, or wikipedia articles dominated by the same people) you see that the distribution is pretty equal among large breeds.  I've done this about five times in threads over the years.  Animals are dangerous.  Cats bite the shiat out of people all the time.

Please link your source.

For kicks, I just did my google "dog attacks kills child" check again.  For the first five pages:

1) Catahoula Hound
2) Pit Bull
3) Chihuahua

The search was clogged by a brazillion "attack cat" hits though

I work with dogs daily, and the number of small dog bites way outnumber the big dogs, but being bit in the face by a Chihuahua doesn't make the headlines like being mauled by a pit bull.

Because being bit in the face by a chihuahua or a house cat is substantially different than being bit in the face by a pitbull.

I found this page from the facebook group, which I found in the article about this lovely girl being asked to leave a restaurant. I just can't believe what I read and wanted to do something to help, even if I don't have much to donate. Victoria is a beautiful little girl, with or without her scars.

Now I'm not saying that this couldn't have happened at KFC, maybe it did, but the family is looking at a lot of surgery for this kid (that's also detailed on the Facebook page.) It's now been several months since the attack, support is probably dropping off now......lots of people in the world to feel sorry for, aft ...

Mississippi already has shiat-all coverage for hospitals in their State. Hour-long transport times are not rare, at all, to get to a bandaid station Level IV Hospital in some counties.

When I worked retail, I had a coworker with only one arm. She was fantastic at her job, fun to be around, and even very pretty. But there were customers who refused to let her ring up their purchases. Some even complained about her to the managers. All because she was born with one arm.

TFA also said that half of the little girl's face was paralyzed, which likely affected her ability to eat, giving knuckledraggers another excuse to say their feelings were hurt at the sight of such a terrible monster of a preschooler.

tl;dr: I believe this happened.

Yeah?  So what?  Sure, pit bulls are the leaders of the pack in human fatalities, but what percentage of the total number of pit bulls in this country have actually attacked or killed someone?  I think that that number is more important because labeling something the "deadliest," while true, can also be misleading.

I'm certainly not saying other dogs don't bite, but a Chihuahua bite vs. a Pit Bull bite...well, there is a bit of a difference.

I'm sure there are lovable, nice Pit Bulls out there.  The problem is the ones that aren't lovable and nice or the ones that get mad can cause catastrophic damage.  More so than that Chihuahua that bit your ankle.  That's probably why drug dealers tend to favor dogs like Pit Bulls over Chihuahuas.

Yeah but you never really hear the phrase "Mauled to death by Dachshund" in media..  Oh sure you might get a nip some time, but never anything bad like what happened to the little girl.

You never hear it because of the Dachshund mafia which control the news media in the US.

My dad has had three mini dachshunds, and all of them have bitten. The fact that my dad teases them while they eat or when someone tries to pet them while he's holding them probably have something to do with that. When my daughter got bitten pretty darn badly on the arm at the ripe old age of four for going too close to her grandfather (because HOW DARE SHE?!?!), it was a mini dachshund. The dog wasn't big, but neither was my daughter, so it could have happened.

I nearly lost an eye at six when my grandmother's peekapoo decided it really didn't want me to pet it. My husband was nearly killed by a golden retriever when he was a kid.

Oddly...  None of us have ever been bitten by a bully breed.

Do you have any idea how many other things in your house have a statistically much greater chance of harming your child than any household pet (including small dogs and cats, which can also cause a lot of damage to a small child)? The child's father and other friends/relatives are more likely to cause harm. By your standards there, you should probably just put the kid in a bubble in solitary confinement-- because you care, you know. Or just don't have kids.

HST's Dead Carcass: Pumpernickel bread: I would be very surprised if this turned out to be true.

I do feel compassion for that little girl and I think what she really needs is to be saved from her family.

He honestly didn't bug anyone else unless they paid attention to him, and as far as I was concerned, that was their problem, not his. it wasn't like during a lunch rush or anything, h ...

I hate when that happens!

If my arm was caused by a hereditary condition, I might be more understanding of people's reactions. However, like the girl in the article, my disfigurement was from a physical injury. In my case, my injuries were from a car accident, which crushed my arm from the elbow down. Doctors managed to reattach my hand, but I lost my radial forearm bone, my thumb, and half my wrist.

Right, but that's complicated.

Which reaction to a person with a deformity or disease is going to be more strongly selected for, keeping in mind that 99% of human evolution (and 100% of pre-human evolution) occurred in brutal primitive environments where death was a constant part of life:

1. Carefully analyze the deformity to determine the possible cause and probability of danger to you and your tribe.
OR
2. Fear, strong revulsion, and shunning.

True from an evolution standpoint.

My point is, we as a society are supposed to be better than that. People having an initial uncomfortable reaction, I can handle. Most people shake it off and their rational mind kicks in.

But, for a certain segment of the population, the exact opposite happens, and they work themselves into a fit of hysteria. Unfortunately, these are the same people who go out of their way to cause trouble for anyone they consider "Others". There simply is no good excuse for it in this day and age.
