FTA Lawyer and legal blogger Lyndon Harris described Newsome's case as "a knee jerk reaction by the CPS" and told the Guardian the law is "failing miserably. At what point does unpleasant become criminal? You're just locking people up for saying nasty things. If someone said that to you in the pub and you went to the police, they'd tell you to go away."

Seems to sum it up.

They have nothing to do with each other.

Loss of free speech comes purely by the masses staying quiet while a loud outspoken minority of speech-haters dictate what is and what is not acceptable and allowed to be said in public spaces.

If some guy is open-carrying and comes near a crowd of oppressed people (speech-wise), his weapon is not going to magically allow them to break fascist rules laid down by police or any city.

Really? Guns protect speech?

"Mr. Emory, you are not a parent and if you were, you would have never engaged yourself in this type of behavior. Those of us who are parents take a very dim view of this behavior. I suspect those who aren't, don't find this to be a big deal"

So even the judge admits that Emory, as well as the majority of people under 20 (and quite a few adults), didn't see any harm in what he did?  Damn, too bad he plead NC (and has no money for a real lawyer), he'd have a heck of an appeal.

Pathetic.  We deserve the asteroid at this point - "Boo hoo, you offended me, how can I go on with life?"  Y'know what?  Just don't.  Just lie down and die now, you unbearably fragile coont, and let the rest of us go on with our lives on this filthy, violent ball of mud.

I think probably the latter as they're practically extinct.

And the guy who kicked me out? He wears a fedora. I think it was meant to be. I don't need his shiatty arcade anyway, as there's at least one honest to goodness arcade left, and they like me, so..
(yeah, I know not all atheists are like that)

Also, and I am not sure, but I think he hates it when someone beats his high scores too. What a douche.

I do know that his jukebox has a sign that spells out tons of genres not to play enough to the point that no one bothers because his biatch wife (of whom he calls a biatch and gladly allows her to needlessly nag customers..) will turn anything off that she dislikes.

My friend owns a liquor store where they do Taste Testings of booze every Saturday. Yesterday they were setting up the stand for said taste testings. Some 2nd Amendment yahoo comes through the door with a pistol strapped to his waist. The guy was only about 5'5", and I didn't even see the weapon from behind the counter.

Owner: "I'm gonna need you to leave your weapon in the car, sir."
Yahoo: "I have been given this privelege to carry a weapon by THE Constitution of the United States, are you trying to infringe upon my rights?"
Owner: "The law states you cannot carry firearms in places where alcohol is served. Go to your car and remove your firearm. At this point, that's all I'm asking."
Yahoo: "At this point? I thought this was a free country! This isn't a bar, it's a liquor store!"
Owner: "I'm not sure you heard me, we serve alcohol here. We have a sign clearly posted on the front door that says NO Weapons Allowed..."
Yahoo: "How can a liquor store serve alcohol..."
Owner: "I also have the right to refuse service to anyone. I am now enacting that right, get out of my store. You cannot carry a firearm while I am serving alcohol."

The owner, who is a body builder, steps out to escort the guy out of the store and there was a bunch of talking over each other, basically, the tiny gun nut was telling the owner not to put his hands on him and his buddies will be hearing about this, and the owner just kept repeating he needs to leave the store NOW.

It ended with the guy saying something about the military protecting his freedoms, etc and the owner telling him: "I spent 27 years in the military, our store is Vet owned and operated. I was the one that served the time to guarantee that right. Which branch did you serve in?"

The owner is a retired full bird Colonel, btw.

The point is, yahoo's will use ANY excuse to talk about the8ir 2nd amendment rights, even when they are in the wrong. The yahoo wanted to be like those Open Carry Taxes fools and picked the wrong store to do it in.

Of course, this came 3 weeks after a regular customer of the store (who was a Vet, and a chaplain as well), started shooting at his friends one night, then got into a shootout with the police... and lost. The guy is 72 years old and was shot through the belly by the police, and has a court date next week for 4 counts of attempted homicide, 2 of those again Law Enforcement Officers.

The strangest part about this is it has not hit the news AT ALL. Mainly because here in Colorado Springs, we've had a huge problem with Military personnel going off the rails and murdering people, so there's almost a standing gag order for the media on Military personnel or Vets murdering or attempting to murder people. As of this, no one knows why he went on a shooting rampage, and no one knows why it's not being reported, not even in the Police Blotter. The only thing I've been able to find is his Court Docket, and he will be appearing June 18th, first appearance, court case 2014CR2395 for El Paso county. I can't even find what the actual charges are against him, we just took a guess after hearing from his wife what he did.

But, yeah, any reason at all to talk about 2nd Amendment rights and all that. Even the Good Guys with Guns are becoming dangerous.

It is the constitutional right of every person, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or creed, to be offended by those more ignorant of them. If getting offended by idiots makes you stop everything and whine about how you are unjustly persecuted due to stupid stereotypes, you waste time better used to study why these stereotypes exist in the first place. The strong push for political correctness and anti-bullying legislation are the last gasp of an older generation too ashamed to admit that their faults are just as bad as the establishment that preceded them. You cannot undo centuries of intolerance by simply making it "impolite" to broach subjects of social and international equality. The idiot doesn't care who they offend with their feeble rhetoric. Why should you?

Colorado Springs is surrounded by 5 military installations. A few years back we had a serious issue with troops being returned from the Middle East to Fort Carson. One group was running around as a group indiscriminately attempting to murder people. At first, they thought it was gang activity because there were a few drive bys, but they were only so successful with it. They then ran a lady down that was walking down the sidewalk, ran her over with their SUV and kept on going like nothing happened. After a few more murders, they caught them, then there was no news of anything at all. The news reported they have suspects in custody for a string of murders and attacks, then no other news came out. There was a special report in the local newspaper about it, then nothing again. Another GI was raping women, and ended up killing two of them because he was having issues getting it up. he turned himself in after murdering a special needs girl he had lured away from a tour.

Again, I can't really point to online resources about the stuff, because it was kept under wraps really tight, but here's a Rolling Stone article on what we went through out here, and why it's kept so hush-hush now.

I wasn't shocked by the guy carrying the gun, again, I didn't even notice the damned thing. Most my friends carry weapons or have them around and my last job was with the local PD, so EVERYONE was strapping there. What shocked me was how fast the owner reacted to the sight of a handgun. I was just minding my own business and all of a sudden he's all but throwing a guy out the front door.. Much of what I wrote in the previous post was paraphrased, because it happened so fast.

They dont have a constitution in England. One thing that is great about America is that you cant be jailed for offensive speech. walktoanarcade : I think probably the latter as they're practically extinct.

Arcades still exist, they've just either specialized or gone upscale. We've lost the classic "garage packed with standup cabinets" glory-days of the late '80s, but today we have Chuck-E-Cheese and Dave & Busters and the like, just glorified arcades that target particular demographics.

And the guy who kicked me out? He wears a fedora. I think it was meant to be.

Hipsters frequently suck (yeah, I know - I can stop there) at telling a Trilby from a Fedora. I find it deliciously ironic that the one area in which their deliberate-ironic-detachment actually succeeds, they accomplish purely by accident.

thamike: Igor Jakovsky: They dont have a constitution in England.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_the_United_Kingdom

From your link:

Unlike many other nations, the UK has no single constitutional document. This is sometimes expressed by stating that it has an uncodified or "unwritten" constitution.[1] Much of the British constitution is embodied in written documents, within statutes, court judgements, works of authority and treaties. The constitution has other unwritten sources, including parliamentary constitutional conventions.[2]

They dont have a single constitutional document. Their rules of governance and procedure come from a lot of different sources. Maybe I should have said they dont have a first amendment to the OP who was talking about an individuals constitutional right to make offensive speech when this article was talking about England.

The choice to empower words to wound yourself is a choice in self failure that brags of insecurity and a total lack of self confidence.

If the Nanny State wanted to get involved and make a difference, they should be looking into the factors that would cause the perceived problem instead of further empowering his anger, hostility and bitterness. Because you know, 6-8 weeks in criminal college will surely make him a newly well adjusted individual with no further seedy contacts or ideas or knowledge of what to do with his angry bitterness while the root cause persists. Too much trouble and too complicated? STFU and get back to real government business and allow society and culture to take care of societal and cultural problems.

Don't feed what you don't want to grow and flourish.

Well, let's go all out offensive, courtesy of Mr Bungle!

I wanna lock Betty Crocker in the kitchen
And knock her upper during supper
Clutter up her butter gutter
Hostess Ding Dong wrapped an eggroll around my wong
While Dolly Madison proceded to ping my pong
Your Milky Way is M'n'M in your britches
And I'll tell you Baby Ruth it looks mighty delicious
Keep blowing my gum, cuz here I come
I'm gonna get you all sticky with my Bubble Yum

Knick knack paddywhack and give your dog a bone, baby

I was givin' some head to some french bread
It was a four course orgy on the spread of my bed
French kissin' french fries in my Fruit of the Looms
I get deeper penetration with a fork and a spoon

I got yogurt meat loaf smeared all over my ass
I stick my weiner in two buns and and then give it the gas
Sour cream from my spleen into Levi jeans
Gonna bust the seams with my refried beans

Ronald McDonald just loves to be fondled
With Big Mac he'll f*ck it like a Chicken McNugget
Colonel Sanders wants to goose Granny's loose caboose
He's gonna give her a boost with that Kentucky fried juice
Sooper doop poop scoop, loop de loop, chicken coop
Shoot some hoop, top sirloin from the groin
Topped with dick cheese, sneeze, wheeze,
From the skeez disease, wooi!

Take a dump, baby, squirt some gravy
Pour some sugar on me, honey, make it brown & runny
Give a little Flavor Flav, back from the grave
Gonna burn some toast, pump some humpin' rump roast

Knick knack paddywhack, jump in the sack, in fact
Jerk the smack and crack Jack from the back
Bananarama or ramabanana
F*ckin' Barry Manilow on the Copa Cabana

Squeeze me macaroni, slop your face with my bologna

You gotta syphon the spinach, you gotta cream the corn
Sperm scrambles the eggs and a meal is born
Cookin' like a beginner, but I'm goin' up in her
I had Fritos for lunch I'm havin' bush for dinner
Chef Boyardee and the Three Muskateers
Shove Charleston Chews in their rears like queers
"Holy moly, guacamole!" said my Chips Ahoy
I'm gonna pinch a ravioli on the Pillsbury dough boy

Knick knack paddywhack and give your dog a boner, baby

Yeah, it's harsh stuff. Now you know why the local media isn't reporting this stuff anymore. This has been going on since 2006ish time frame.

They spoke of Rum Bay, that's on Tejon Street. It's party central during the weekends, about a dozen bars with balconies overlooking the street and such. Fort Carson personnel have been banned from Tejon Street area for about 3 years now. Anyone from Fort Carson caught on Tejon Street between certain hours on the weekend are in deep shiat. GI's from Schriever AF, the Air Force Academy and Peterson Field AFB are all still allowed to go, but not Fort Carson.

Fort Carson troops usually end up at Copperhead Road where all the bartenders are women in bikini's.

When people start up about 2nd amendment rights, I point to stuff like this where all the handguns were acquired legally, and the people were all well versed in their use. In fact, they were trained to use firearms, moreso than the average gutbusting NRA weekend warrior, like the tiny dude that walked into the liquor store strapping a handgun.

LOL!!!!!

The owner, who is a body builder, steps out to escort the guy out of the store and there was a bunch of talking over each other, basically, the tiny gun nut was telling the owner not to put his hands on him and his buddies will be hearing about this, and the owner just ...

You don't need to feel "sorry" for him. You need to feel scared, or better, infuriated.

If the law doesn't protect asshats who take a joke too far, it doesn't protect any of us.  He did absolutely nothing illegal, the judge even admitted that people without kids probably wouldn't see the problem, and yet because he couldn't afford a better lawyer, he gets to do actual jail time and can't go within 500ft of anywhere kids congregate?  And the whole work-release thing reads like a distopian joke - Of course people take a crappy job to get out of jail, did anyone seriously think inmates (or anyone else for that matter) like working at McDonalds?

/ Gee, I hope this doesn't offend anyone!

Not to mention, I've seen this same stunt done many times. ( Reno 911, tosh.0 come to mind) I didn't see Emory's "performance" but there has been no criminal actions against others.

And as such anything I say is protected as free speech because if I say anything offensive it is for the sake of art and meant to highlight the terrible things people say as opposed to me saying it. (dramatic pose)

Which would be offensive.(ironic look)

Even these words are art, designed to highlight this issue in the particular slant that I, being the artist, choose to create.

Igor Jakovsky: Who gives a sh*t was such a well thought out reply. It doesnt change the fact that England doesnt really have a constitution in the same vein as many other countries. I never thought Id be having an argument about the semantics of the English system of laws this morning but here I am.

Who gives a sh*t was in reply to the UK's constitution not being "a single document" being justification for the absurdity of the original post which reads like there are no freedom of speech in the UK.  It's a retarded statement considering the Brits came up with it in the 1600s.

Carousel Beast: thamike: Igor Jakovsky: They dont have a single constitutional document.
