I'm partial to Jane's Addiction's Had a Dad

Uh, George Michael's "Father Figure" was definitely NOT a song about fatherhood, his father, or anyone's dad.  That seems to be the only song on the list out of place.

I posted that before reading TFA, and my posting was in jest.  That song is possibly one of the most incredibly BAD songs for Father's Day, unless the only point is trying to depress everyone around.

le.

Amen, best song about a son understanding his father.  It's not a happy song per se but every father understands it and every son who becomes a father will.

I'd also add in the 'sad/negative but poignant' father songs Danny Boy, which I've always seen as a father singing about his son going off to war, and Christina Aguilera's "Fighter" which is about how shiatty her father was forcing her to become a stronger person.

Dear Daddy, I write you
In spite of years of silence
You've cleaned up, found Jesus
Things are good, or so I hear
This bottle of Steven's
Awakens ancient feelings
Like father, stepfather
The son is drowning in the flood

Daddy Could Swear I Declare.

If you like melancholy, you'll favor The Living Years, like I do as it was several years after my troubled history with my father ended with his death from cancer.

Let's list a bunch of song that have the word father in it. Did a Glee writer come up with this list?

"Nobody gives a fark about daddy. Everyone takes daddy for granted, just listen to the radio. Everything's 'Mama, Dear Mama, Always Loved My Mama.' What's the daddy song? Papa Was a Rolling Stone."

Highway to Hell?

2014-06-15 02:33:14 AM
That was the first list I've seen from Rolling Stone in over 20 years where I've actually heard most of the songs and recognized all but 3 of the "artists". (Although I've never heard Lindsey Lohan sing.)

As a bonus coincidence for me, my iPod is always on shuffle & I heard "Outfit" about 10 hours ago. Go me.

Came to mention that one... and how I wouldn't inflict it on my worst enemy.

Definitely.  That is probably one of the most creepy songs to ever hit #1 on the charts.  It's also the only George Michael song I really like which, I'm afraid, says some disturbing things about me.

damn, I guess this is as good a time as any to pimp @lostcatdog's Poopin' Right Next To My Daddy.  Truly, the Father's day song about colocated defecation the world has been missing... I guess?

Oh, and re-read that lists description of Eric Clapton.

Not a single farking mention of Tom Cruise, nor of "The Color Of Money"...

Glad to see "Father of mine" and "papa was a rolling stone" on there.

/"Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon is the song for the dad I WISH I had

Now how many FARKers have made THAT statement?

Really?  A sappy tag, Father's Day, and not a single mention of Butterfly Kisses?  As sappy as that song is, and as much radio play as it gets EVERY Father's Day, I'm...

If you had a father, or even if you didn't, this might be a bit overwhelming.

Came in to say that.

Made me lol and nearly spit my coffee out. Either writer was trolling, or completely and utterly failed to understand the meaning of the song.

I love the song, but it's kind of creepy on its own without someone misinterpreting it as about fatherhood...Though, judging from some youtube videos, it's apparently not an uncommon assumption (do people not listen to lyrics?).

Unless you think "daddy" in the BDSM sense, since that interpretation could at least fit the lyrics, but still horribly out of place in connection to fathers day (for most people I would hope.....).

Too bad most of them are somber and depressing. The Paul Simon one is great, though.

Worst song to listen to on Father's Day: Janie's Got a Gun

(Warning - Christian Music referenced ahead)

American Dream by Casting Crowns is a pretty decent punch to the gut.

This American Dream
Is beginning to seem
More and more like a nightmare
with every passing day
'Daddy can you come to my game?'
'Oh baby, please don't work late'
Another wasted weekend
and they are slipping away

Yeah, as depressing as this song is, it's farking stupid to put it in a '17 best' list. It's a cool sing, but it's not gonna make people do anything but get depressed if they listen to it on Father's Day.

After that, I quit their shiatty ass sideshow.
