BalugaJoe: They lost.

The would have had a good chance if they had actually played both halves. And maybe stop shooting the ball 10 feet over the top of the goal.

And if Rooney had stayed awake for the whole match...

I haven't seen a team have that many crosses go so badly awry. I think the UEFA teams are learning how tough high temperature/humidity games on a dodgy field are to play. A couple of weeks in Florida aren't enough to acclimate.

It was this moment where the wheels seemed to fall off the bus:

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/06/italy-england-rooney-miss-world-cup

And as I watch that gif, I'm wondering what's going on with the two Italian players nearest the goal.  After they see the miss, they both look (to our) right and raise their arms up like, WTF - where was the call?  What was that reaction? Were they looking for some kind of call on something that we don't see in the gif?

Yes. A single defender was playing rooney onside. The people who turned to the ref thought that he must have been offside because he was behind them.

Pretty sure the caption says its his father-in-law, which makes him even more of a wanker.

But don't worry, I'm sure the heat in Qatar won't effect the quality of the games.
