Usually we pick on women for not knowing they were pregnant, but when medical professionals couldn't tell, I guess she gets a pass.

So either

A) This woman was pregnant for 17 months and the baby has been living inside her for about 6 months without a placenta, or B) some anti-abortion nut is confusing fetuses with babies again.

That's bizarre.

How in the world could she only be 32 weeks along and the baby is already 9 lbs?

How do you not know you are pregnant? Wouldn't the enormous beer gut give it away?
Wouldn't the movement of the baby inside indicate something? So many questions.

Actually, several (older) cultures [don't know about New Zealand, but I'd doubt it] measure age much differently, as they essentially count the 9 months in the womb as "one". Thus, saying a newborn is "32 weeks old" isn't totally wackadoodle.

That, and lighten up, Frances.

/not to mention that "baby" includes the definition "fetus", and no one I know has ever asked, "So, how far along is the fetus?" or "I heard you were in hospital; is the fetus alright?"

True, but the word the Hospital Administrator uses is "Bing!".(Skip to 2:10)

John Cleese says "ping", Michael Palin says "bing", so either is correct.

And she doesn't look, in that picture at least, severely obese like is usually true for such cases of being unaware of pregnancy...  >.<

Weird.

More detailed article here:  http://www.nzwomansweekly.co.nz/your-stories/weekly-people/no-one-kne w -i-was-pregnant/

"During both pregnancies, Rebecca still had her period and was on the Pill"

Apparently she says the two children she has now are enough, if she is serious about that she might want to consider getting her uterus removed, that thing is willing to lie and cheat to get her to reproduce.

Well she's not, okay.  And you sound hideous.

/the article even mentioned that the docs said she couldn't possibly look pregnant.

I like how every medical article includes mention of whether or not there was negligence involved in the situation.  They tagged it on the end of this article at a point where the reader would already have known negligence was not involved.  It says something about medicine that people are so suspicious about hospitals, doctors and the medical world in general that every related article discusses the legality of the situation it's reporting on.

I once read an article that made no sense.  A person had been admitted for emergency care after an accident and then released once better.  The article made a point of how no wrong actions were taken by hospital staff in spite of there being zero reason to suspect there might have been some.  It's like mistakes are the default and every normal situation must be highlighted to surprise and amuse us.

Not all women get the big pregers belly. I knew someone that without knowing she was pregnant just looked like she had a flabby belly. She didn't gain so much weight that the it was that noticeable. Still had a 7 pound baby and she only gained 25 pounds during the whole pregnancy(while eating like a pig mind you).

Sounds like doctors thought she was a complainer and blew off her symptoms. Oh negative pregnancy test well they're never wrong. And sounds like the ultrasound tech was undertrained or told no she's not pregnant so don't look for anything baby shaped in there.

Or it could be that the human body is incredibly complex. We are all essentially the same, yet we don't react to everything the same way. That's why drug labels include numerous side effects that may or may not happen.
