As much as Saddam Hussein was a bastard, his government was a government and it kept the tree way faction of Kurds, Sunnis and Shia in line. Bush bot rid of Saddam Hussein and the police force that kept all thee people in line, so they Balkanized.

It was inevitable that it would descend into civil war. These borders were not originally drawn with the ethnic groups in mind. the Kurds should be in Kurdistan, the Shia want to join Iran and the Sunnis need their own country too.

Joe Biden actually had a plain for dividing the country into 3 parts.

Turkey will never allow Kurdistan to exist as its own country.

You're assuming they have a choice. Erdogan's support for the Islamists will have a cost.

I'm rooting for Kurdistan, but one of the reasons we decided against letting Iraq split up was the Turks were threatening to invade if we did set up a Kurdistan. With all the weapons grade stupidity in that part of the world, I wouldn't be surprised if the Turks did make a move. They seem to really, really, hate Kurds...

Sir, it has changed a lot in the last 10 DAYS. ISIS which now controls Mosul Tikrit part of Syria is much more horny to be jihady than Osama's minions ever were, that is if you buy the official story of 9-11.

I know nobody in the US gives a shiat. But this 'crisis' is the first legit "diplomatic/power brokering/non-dick waving" opportunity the US has had in this part of the world, since before the Iraq invasion of Kuwait. 25 years ago....

We can use it to twist arms from Tehran to Damascus, from Riyadh to Dubai, from Tel Aviv to Ankara.

Diabolically brilliant strategy.

He knows the terrorists can't resist a big fat juicy target with George Bush painted on the side.

He knows the Democrats can't resist a big fat juicy target with Hillary Clinton painted on the side.

He knows it's going to be a Seven Dwarfs versus the Wicked Witch of the Mid-West situation.

He's going to leave office with a bang rather than a whimper.

What's in the Mystery Surprise Fun Bag? Is a carrot? Is it a big fat juicy carrot? Or is it a big fat juicy turd sandwich?

Remember George Bush? Remember his shiat-eating grin? Didn't you hate that grin? Didn't you want to wipe it off his upper class twit preppy entitlement face?

Now's you chance maybe.

Blow up the George H.W. Bush.

Blow up Iraq.

Blow up the whole damn Middle East and get even with all those damn Sunnis and shiates and Christian Crusaders and Zionists. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO!

Vote for Hillary. She's the only man in the race. She's the only candidate with war experience. She issued the orders to shoot Osama in the head. She watched via satellite while they were carried out.
She's the Queen Bee and you are her drones! Do it! Do it! Do it!

I say we get George W. Bush, and Dick Cheney and send them over there hog tied.

Let the people there vent their anger and all will be forgiven. Well, maybe throw in Rumsfeld, Condi, Wolfowitz, Pearle, Yoo, Gonzales, and a few others. Hell, George Will, Bill Kristol, Charles Cabbagecrusher, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Alex Jones, Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, Mitt Romney, Eric Cantor, Mitch McConnell.. while I'm dreaming.

Ow! That was my feelings!: We can use it to twist arms from Tehran to Damascus, from Riyadh to Dubai, from Tel Aviv to Ankara.

The problem becomes how beholden we are to our "allies".

Our allies in the region, primarily Saudi Arabia and Qatar, are Sunni-ruled, and any meaningful action against ISIS may run afoul of them. Likewise, any overtures of assistance/co-operation with Shia Iran (which tactically would be the best way of handling this) would not only anger the Saudis and Qatari, but Israel as well.

I totally get where you're coming from, I just don't see any easy options.

First off... What allies? We are our only friend in the Mideast, we need to grow up and understand that fact.

No no, I completely agree there as well (hence my use of quotes), but lets be real here.. what are the chances of our government ever doing something that Israel (and to a much lesser extent the Saudis) really opposed?
