At age 44 I am a Sandwich Generation, on the high side, what we call the gyro generation, but still under the sandwich generation classification, a sub-sandwich genre if you will.

I'm 37, so on the lower end of the spectrum. Does that make me a taco?

Lean Corned Beef piled high topped with cole slaw, swiss cheese and russian dressing on an onion roll. Or as my local deli calls it a lean 17 1/2. Local Detroiters just may know where to get one.

I have four parents. They all have security for their future. And they are not rich. But, they mainly worked for NYC at a good time. They are covered. I am so relieved. My husband's mother is a nightmare.

Every time I go there, I think I am going to try something else.  Inevitably, I always go with the Corned Beef on Rye with mustard.  The one by me just started opening on Sundays, so I know what lunch is going to be tomorrow.  Maybe I'll try the 17 1/2.

I took care of my mom, who had ALS, for ten years.
For four of those years I also had the care of my stepdaughter, who is wheelchair-bound with spina bifida.

Talk about a sandwich generation? I could write a book.

I recently discovered sun dried tomato paste. Goes good on just about every sandwich, and you can add it to soup for your elderly parents!

I hear that.  Took care of my mother during her ovarian CA.  With the help of Hospice and Home Health, kept her at home as long as we could. Finally had to be admitted to a long care facility, AKA nursing home,  She lasted four days, finally being morphined out.  The mornings were good, because she was still lucid.  By the time I arrived after work, she was out.  Good for her.
Then took care of my disabled sister.  She ended up with soft tissue jaw and tongue CA- coupled with the Rheumatoid arthritis.  She lived with me for five years.  Again, with the help of Hospice, they morphined her out.
/It was a blessing in both cases.
//it's a little weird at first dealing with the role reversal.

Meh. For a few decades in the 20th century, having three generations living together was unusual. Now we have returned to normal.

My dad lived that arrangement for much of his life.  It drove him to drink and made him a tense and angry individual who sought out privacy at every opportunity (including those years he should have been a family man to his wife and kids).

So yes.  fark that.

My parents had the decency to die young.

Which was nice because I didn't like them anyway.

So I got that going for me.
