I Like Shiny Things: Tats are farking awesome. Its like a voluntary scarlet letter program to indicate the trash of society!
Mr. Fuzzypaws: Here are my sea lions. They do mean something to me. Obviously I like sea lions. And they are my Zoo tattoos (they are from the Sea Lion Cove sign at the Zoo). I won't bore you all with what the Zoo means to me but I'm alive because of it.[i158.photobucket.com image 850x634]Judge away.

jehovahs witness protection: I shall refer to you as "Sharkbait".
Bedstead Polisher: I'm always puzzled by face tattoos. I saw a woman on the bus yesterday. She was attractive, but had brightly coloured hair and some tattoos on her face that were clearly decorative. She walked through the bus, polite, excusing herself as she squeezed past, so she might be a lovely person. But honestly, my first impression was that she was an idiot for tattooing her face.Personally, I've never been a fan of tattoos, but I've realized that in this day and age, that majority of people have them. While I can't really judge people for having tattoos I find myself judging people based on where the tattoos are. And in a few years, it may be commonplace to have visible tattoos and no one will judge.I know I'll have people telling me that I shouldn't judge, but it's human nature, you all do it for various reasons. Plus I've known enough tattooed people to know I shouldn't completely dismiss them because they are my friends and family members as well. But I will never understand why people would permanently mark an easily viewed part of their body with a grotesque Garbage Pail Kid.
skinink: Let's see:PHYSICALLY: The risk of getting a disease like Hepatitis from a tattoo artist that is not careful about sterilizing his/her equipment, the pain involved in getting one, the bleeding afterwardThat's why you go to a reputable artist. They sterilize and use new needles for all customers. They really don't hurt much. They also don't bleed much at all. Maybe a little while it is being done, and it is stopped before they wash it down and put on a bandage.MENTALLY: Why would anyone think they need a tattoo to make themselves "better"? Also, if you get a tattoo because you think it's "cool" then you're applying the standards of the world. What's wrong with "I like this and think it looks nice on me?" Seems to be what most people I know use as their reasoning. That's why I have all of mine.SOCIALLY: People who have tattoos are often looked down upon as rednecks or low-lifes simply because they have tattoos, and people who have visible tattoos often get passed over for jobs by people who believe tattoos present an unprofessional appearance.
d23: oblig. Don't hate me, tat lovers..[i263.photobucket.com image 610x629]
dpzum1: I got my tats long ago...before they were considered "in". And, two of them are visible, on my forearms.I make it a point, and always have, not to judge a book by it's cover. Same as someone being overweight, too tall, too short, "weird looking", whatever. If someone is going to judge me by my tats, and assume I'm someone that I'm not, that's their loss.
RoyBatty: 1. This is an old thread, but it's one of the funnest old threads there is. Just sad there is no Steve Buscemi quote about tattoos.2. Is a "tribal" tattoo, cultural appropriation? What does the Social Justice League have to say about tribals?
oldsbone: Don't forget random Chinese words. Sure, you think you're being deep because you have "Opportunity, fate, and karma" written on your arm. But every Chinese person is laughing as they see you because you really have "Kung Pao Chicken, Does this tattoo make may wrist look fat, and I blow goats for fun and profit."/Obviously, this does not apply to actual Chinese people.
