I like the recent Bourne movies better than any Bond movie.

I always get the three Bourne films mixed up. And it doesn't help that the second one ends with a scene from half way through the third.

The Renner film was pretty good, too

I liked the first and third Bourne movies. The second one suffered from that incredibly shiatty ADD edit-style that killed Quantum of Solace for me.

Which was the second Bourne movie?  I've never, ever had that queasy, sea- or carsick feeling during a movie like I had with that one.  FFS, stop shaking the camera!

The Russian Terminator one.

Sure it was. I'd have liked to see more of a tie in, other than Bourne's name scratched into a bedpost though.

Huh, second one is my favorite because of the plot (and nihilistic feel I'll admit). QoS had barely any plot.

/a couple good scenes though

While I enjoyed it, his use of his rifle bugged me. Scope was mounted backwards, one scene he's peering through it with dust cap closed, and that rifle is a bolt-action where the movie makes it look like a semi-auto.

Worse than that - almost the entire third movie takes place between the next-to-last and last scene of the second.

Liked them all though - even the Renner one.

Wow, a slideshow article about a movie that came out 10 years ago, and was probably the weakest of the trilogy...I see it is a SLOWWWW news day on the Fark.com entertainment tab.

The Bourne Supremacy wasn't made with any intention of feeding into a third

I guess that explains why it wasn't Identity-> Ultimatum-> Supremacy, an naming order that would have made more sense.

Yeah. That confused the hell out of me when I watched the third one.

I enjoyed all the films, though he did make a tactical error in the third when he told the Blackbriar boss he was in his office. He gained nothing by telling him that and led to the baddie catching up with him and Landy at the end. The baddie very nearly won, all because Bourne let him know where he was and that he had his files. Why not just let him drive around trying to find him?

Very similar to Arnie as the good Terminator in T2 letting the T-1000 know he was on to him by hanging up the phone when he got the name of the dog wrong. That led to the T-1000 going straight to the asylum, where he caught Connor. Had Arnie said "I've got some things to do Mom, I'll be back around midnight" the T-1000 would have had to sit in the house wasting time while Arnie and John could get far far away (Arnie's original plan) or rescue Sarah safely.

/I think about these things too much...

The Bourne Trilogy is one of those rare situations where both the book and the film series are terrific. Rare for me anyway.

The second movie/book were the best, even though they had absolutely nothing in common story wise. I sympathize with the 'shaky-cam' complaints but I never found it much of a problem.

Or when Ripley fries all the eggs in the Queen's chamber at the end of "Aliens". That was pure spite since they were going to be blown to hell in a few minutes anyway.

I think Bourne did that to pull Noah and his crew off of Landy so that she could do her thing untrailed. If Noah had stayed with Landy, he'd have caught Bourne when he (Bourne) and Landy met outside the training facility.

/Was bothered by shakycam and quick-edits in Supremacy, but all 3 are still great movies
//Have refused to watch Legacy, even though I have no beef with Renner

2014-06-15 12:25:21 AM
The legacy movie looked like it had a lot of potential, the pacing was kinda weird, took too long to setup  and the ending was seemed abrupt. I kept thinking that Renner was supposed to be Bourne's replacement.

As for the trilogy I'm a huge fan of all three and even with the shaky cam craziness of Supremacy I still love it. 3rd one is my favorite hands down.

Same here. I feel like I could watch 30 minutes of one and still not be able to guess which of the three it is. I can't say I've ever had that trouble with any other trilogy I've seen.

the bourne supremacy in my opinion ranks as one of the worst sequels ever, because it managed to destroy everything i liked about the first movie.  i hated supremacy so bad i walked out of the theater right near the end because didn't see any reason to finish watching it, and i've never watched the other sequels because supremacy killed the franchise so badly for me.  i still love bourne identity though.

Someothermonkey: The second movie/book were the best,

and i was just about to say that i've read bourne identity and enjoyed it, but then i thought the sequel book was pretty awful as well.  i didn't finish reading bourne supremacy either, but it is far better than the movie even though they have nothing in common.  i just thought the book was contrived and pointless.

2014-06-15 11:22:55 AM
Without the Bourne movies, there wouldn't have been that homage in Oceans Thirteen where they follow Linus with shaky cam.  Only unlike Bourne, he's biatchy and incompetent.  I always thought that scene was funny when I realized that.

That's funny, I think most people would consider the first movie the weak one of the three.  They just got stronger after that, and the third one is really the best.

None of them follow the books too much; even the first one deviated apart from the opening third.
