mootmah: dietbubba: kab: NHL raised the bar for ref incompetency last evening, lets see if World Cup officials have an answer for them today!

I missed the game but saw a lot of Rangers fans complaining.  What was it that was so bad?

Game-tying goal came off of a trip that was called on the wrong team.

Meh, there are bad, missed, or weak calls EVERY game for both teams.  Reffing is part of every sport.
The other team killed their share of penalties on bad calls and flops, Rangers failed to kill theirs.

RminusQ: Today's trivia questions: With Spain's shiat-kicking yesterday, who now owns the longest current shutout streak at World Cup Finals? Among teams at this year's tournament, whose active shutout streak is longest?

Answers: After allowing a 29th minute penalty to Italy, New Zealand went the rest of that game and all of a 0-0 draw with Paraguay without conceding, meaning they are on a 151-minute shutout streak. The longest streak by a team that is here also ended with a 0-0 draw to Paraguay; that team is Japan, riding a 129-minute without their opponents scoring into tonight's battle with Cote d'Ivoire.

TV ratings for EPL matches on NBC were well above what FOX Soccer and ESPN2 were ever able to accomplish. TV ratings for Thursday's WC opener were well up compared to 4 years ago. He says these things, but the evidence clearly points to him being wrong.

First, he's an idiot. I don't like golf, but I understand it requires skill and practice and that sometimes amazing shots are have a lot of luck in them. Doesn't mean it isn't a 'real' sport. Speaking of golf, isn't that more 'old world' than not?

But he's a professor of philosophy. He could convince himself that dying alone in the middle of the sahara desert is as good as sitting in a cool bar drinking cold beer and having hot women all around him.

As well as watching men in their physical prime take off their shirts on TV after the game, if that's your thing (and it is my thing).

/The players taking off their shirts, that is, the fans not so much.

NBC actually promoted it. Fox just stuck most of the games on Fox Soccer with little or no promotion and only recently started to air some of the bigger games on the Fox Network.

I'm really worried about how Fox is going to handle the World Cup in 2018 and 2022.
